Activities:

March for Politheens Free Rajgir A march past attended by team members at Rajgir on 1st of April. The march past jointly organized by the district and block level authorities. The main objective of this was to aware and mobilized local people for making Politheens free environment and completely stopping the use of Politheens, so the pollution and bad effect could be reduced. This march past participated by the government authorities, local peoples and addressed by DM and other officials. One day Block level Orientation: Block level 1 day orientation program held at near Panchayat Bhawan in Panchayat Nahub on 23rd of this month. Orientation workshop were participated by the District and block level administrative officials, EE-PHED, GSF Bihar team, Jeevika team, ACE Program Director Bihar, project team Rajgir, and the rural community of all nine Panchayats. The purpose was to mobilize rural community for making Rajgir block Open Defecation free block in next 3 month. Meeting/ orientation headed by the DM, during addressing the rural community all grievances of rural community in respect of SBM incentive were listened and DM assured that he will look after the matter and try to improve the condition. He promised that after verification of constructed toilets, incentive must be released in next 3 days; he also encouraged the

community for constructing and using toilets for maintaining their dignity, family health and stopping the extra burden of their HHs income. Executive Engineer –PHED also assured that DWSC personals would carried out mobilization activities and all verification work will be settled in speedy manner. State Manager, GSF Dr. Anup Tripathi also addressed the community and 1 minute pin drop silent keeping by the community for remembering those children who didn’t compete their first birth day due to unhygienic condition of sanitation and hygiene. An awareness generated songs, nukkad natak also played by the professionals. Orientation programme anchored by the Director Programme Bihar, ACE. The Block Development Officers given the Vote of Thanks and orientation programme concluded. In order to organized programme successfully and for disseminating the information in respect of next coming 1 day block level orientation programme, project team covered 39 habitation and villages of block Rajgir and contacted approximate 1200 villagers in 5 days. In result approximate 1300 people have been participated the orientation and mobilize for constructing and using toilets. Community mobilization through House Holds visits IPC Campaign and Community Meetings: Behavior change leading to community commitment to improves their own sanitation status and construct and use toilets so that their village can become "Open Defecation Free" (ODF). It took place through home to home visit, IPC Campaign, Small Community meeting and regular early follow up with the communities along with the respective block coordinator, Nodal officer SBM (G), Rajgir. Households in the villages of the project areas were visited on a continuous basis to discuss sanitation and hygiene issues to facilitate internalization of improved hygiene practices. Households were enthused and were motivated and covered up soil after defecation and want to set up a permanent solution to stop open defecation but those were financially not competent enough ward member, mukhiya and supplier of this respective panchayat were extending their hand to support. During the household visits ACE team member discuss about the toilet technology option and show them the various toilet technologies with cost and its advantages and disadvantages. Through discussion and demonstration team generated a sense of disgust and shame among community. The purpose of this activity was to trigger them improve their basic sanitation and hygiene practices and realize how open defecation impacts their health and wealth on daily basis and how they can over come from it by their collective efforts. They used to morning and evening walkabouts (Time of defecation ) every day and keep a sharp lookout for villagers going out to defecate in the open and stop them from doing so at the place of open defecation. They along with ACE team with the support of administration were doing the difficult work to convince the villagers to change their habit of going to the field to

Mass mobilization through Ratri Chaupal, Video show, Nukkad Natak and Sanitation

Campaign:

Team along with District administration conducted Ratri Chaupal and Video show session with support of PRI member and Block Coordinator. Community made aware on importance and usages of toilets and how open defecation practice hampers the development of their economic and Family life. Video shows were conducted at Panchayat to sensitize the community on importance and usages of toilets and showing them that adoption of improved hygiene practices can change their life. Team tried to explain the benefits of construction of toilets for the improvement of sanitation and hygiene status by showing Video film. Nukkad Natak were organised in villages of different Panchayat to showing them importance and need of toilets by doing acting with local dialogue. Community were triggered through using entertaining methods. Sanitation campaign organized at village Meyar with support of PRIs and other local leaders. During the campaign community participated with great enthusiasm and they cleaned different small pockets of village.

Institutional Sanitation: WASH in Schools and Anganwadi sanitation

Sanitation and hygiene awareness activities were conducted in school and Anganwadi centre. The teachers, school children, AWW and Sahayika were also oriented and motivated to keep their premises clean and devise strategy for operation and maintenance of the water and sanitation facilities available in these places. Detailed orientation on Hand washing with soap trough demonstration was done to facilitate learning. Drawing competition were conducted in different school to make flex which had been used in rally.

Sanitation campaign

Sanitation campaign organised with the support of PRIs and BC of LSBA at different villages of Rajgir Block. Team has facilitated a PRI and Community led massive drive to mobilize communities to spearhead the Swachh safai Abhiyan to spread the message in society about the importance of cleanliness and take a cleanliness pledge. Raksha Bandhan “Sachhi Bhiya ka Payer

On 12th August DDC Nalanda inaugurated a Programme on the eve of Raksha Bandhan “Sachhi Bhiya ka Payer” at Pilkhi middle school. Block coordinator, Prgramme officer GSF, Jeevika Team, ACE team and Community of Pilkhi and Gorour panchayat were pre sent. On this occasion brothers will be gift toilet to their sister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Best Bhaiya will be awarded through administration.

ODF Celebration at Mayer Panchayat :

ACE team has facilitated and organised an ODF celebration at Mayer Panchayat under the leadership of DM, Nalanda on the occasion of “Bapu” birthday on 2nd of this month. In this occasion a big certificate to the mukhiya and ward members for their leadership and contribution for win against OD in given time. DRDO, SDM, DCLR, BDO, Panchayat Sachib, other Govt official and PRIs of nine panchayat were present in this occasion. Block coordinator of LSBA and Panchayat coordinator of ACE were given certificated by the district administration.

Hand washing Day Observed:

“Clean hands save lives” by promoting hand washing with soap – an exceptionally efficacious and cost –effective health intervention activity was conducted in different School of different panchayat namely Pilkhi, Mayer, Nahub of Rajgir Block on 15th October 2015 and more than 500 children participated. Team Rajgir were promoting hand washing with soap by a field demonstration of five step of hand washing process and

dissemination of the message that that clean hands save life. Children, on a very large scale participated and washed their hands by using five steps. Debate competition was organised on the issues of OD. By binding ribbon in the children hands were rewarded for using toilets.

Meeting with Head Master for promote use of toilets at school and home :

On 24th October 2016 a meeting was conducted at Block office under the leadership of BDO Rajgir with the Head master of Govt School to ensure to uses of toilets. Children play an important role in driving behaviour change and stopping people from defecating in the open. All head master were instructed by the BDO sir to reward the children by clapping in the time of prayer and encourage and promote the children to use of safe toilets and washing their hands before eating and after defecation in every day.

CPM team visit

On 27th Oct 2016 CPM team visited Pilkhi, Mayer panchayat to review of work has been done by ACE team with the support of GSF. Mr. Anand Shekhar, Team Leader- NRMC/GSF, Mr. Anup Tripathi, state head -NRMC/GSF Bihar, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar- state head -NRMC/GSF Jharkhand visited Mayer and Pilkhi panchayat to finalise the visit of UN team on 14th November, 2016

UN Team Visit: On 14th November 2016 high level delegates from UN have visited to the field visited Mayer panchayat of Rajgir Block. The objective of the visit is for these development experts to understand the level of national commitment to the issue of sanitation & hygiene. On 18th of Nvember 2016 Cycle Rally was conducted at Bhui Panchayat with the leadership of DCLR Rajgir, Nodal Officer Rajgir. Jeevika team, Block Coordinator PRI member were present.

World Toilet Day Observed:

“World Toilet Day” was observed at different places of project area on 19th November 2016 to spread the message of fight against OD were conducted in Nahub and Naipokhr panchayat of Rajgir Block, more than 400 children and villagers were participated.
