ArteCarste – Income and Self-esteem Generation using handcraft and colabortaive work

Costumer: Associação do Circuito Turístico das Grutas (Caves Tourism Circuit Association) sponsored by

Brennand Cement and TAM airlines.

Identified problem: Lack of regional identity, as well as lack of quality in the craft offered for tourists and its

inefficiency as an income generation activity for local people.

Project goals: Raízes diagnosed the state of art of craft production in the region, mobilized artisans and

selected 50 of them to participate in a training process. After more than 200 hours of training, ArteCarste

Association was established. The project allowed the production of two unique collections and the opening of a

store in Cordisburgo.

Strategic Planning for Blue Macaw

Institute (Instituto Arara Azul)

Client: Costumer: Toyota Brazil Foudation

Identified problem: The Hyacinth Macaw Institute needed to turn its actions more professional and create a

sustainable management model so that the current sponsor, Toyota Foudation, could gradually decrease the

annual financial support to the institution. A Sustainability Center was built by Toyota to house the NGO and its

projects. Toyota hired Raízes to support the management of NGO in this new phase.

Project goals: Support Hyacinth Macaw Institute in the planning and management of the institution in order to

diversify revenue sources and ensure sustainability to conservation initiatives. The consulting process aimed

optimization in the use of the new space and institutional strengthening, and also creating impact campaigns and

marketing strategies to the institution.

Development of a Tourism Segmentation Plan and

construction of a Touristic Trade Network in São

Francisco River Bank

Costumer: Government of Alagoas state, IDB Inter-American Development Bank, Spanish Agency for International

Development Cooperation (AECID) and Environmental Institute Brazil Sustainable (IABS).

Identified problem: The Tourism Boosting Project of the lower course area of the São Francisco River came from the

need to structure the tourist region between the river mouth and its canyons. The area comprises 24 cities in the

states of Alagoas and Sergipe, in the Brazilian northeast region. Tourism should be established as an element of

income generation, cultural and environmental improvement and socioeconomic development of the region.

Project goals: Constitution of Regional Tourism Enterprises Network able to manage and give sustainability to the

project as protagonists and in a cooperative approach.

Tourism as a tool for the Sustainable Community

Development in Jequitinhonha Valley

Identified Problem: Absence of alternatives for income generation in the region in which women, as their

husbands spend months away working, have to take care of children and elders by selling their handcrafts

(ceramic mainly) and cultivating subsistence agriculture.

Project Goals: Raízes has diagnosed the situation and mobilized the community to create tours that could

bring visitors, income and a better quality of life. The work was conducted in win-win bases and transparency

was always a premise. The commercialization and conduction of the groups was made by Raízes and after

each group the results were monitored. Ingoing Project. It has started in 2012.
