RAINWATER HARVESTING MANAGEMENT FOR WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM AT UNPAS CAMPUS, BANDUNG CITY
PREPARED BYENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
ENGINEERING FACULTYPASUNDAN UNIVERSITY
BANDUNG SEPTEMBER 2012-SEPTEMBER 2013
Background (1)
• Water is a basic essential need of mankind
• Notwithstanding Citarum River remains to be the main source for water supply for daily living needs of more than 5 million people in the country. At the same time it suffers frequent flooding and inundations effective restoration of Citarum River is urgently required.
• Groundwater is being exploited to fulfill the water need
Background (2)
• High intensity of rainfall in Bandung would give an altenative clean water source though rainharvestingsystem
• Average rainfall is more than 150 mm/month, rainwater represents a potential source of clean water
• As a learning media for the Bandung City community, the rain water harvesting system as an alternative source of clean water will be proposed to be installed at one of the campuses in the city of Bandung, which is located on the Pasundan University (SetiabudhiCampus), i.e. dormitory building.

Purpose and Objective
• The purpose of this study is to design, construct, and monitor a clean water supply pilot system for campus dormitory community using rainwater harvesting technology.
• The objective of this study is to give a learning media for Bandung citizens, especially for the students and campus community
• PROMOTE THE RAINWATER HARVESTING TECHNOLOGY as the potential system to overcome water scarcity in the dry season and reduce inundation in the rainy season.

Water Condition
• Capacity of the dormitory (96 rooms) : 200~300 students/& guests 12~18 m3/day
• Based on the results of the preliminary survey (by questionare), the main issues of the water supply system at UNPAS dormitory building, is the unsatisfactory quality of the deep well water (sometimes have a bad smell)
• cost for purchase drinking water (bottled water) Rp 20,000~30,000/month
