What it is not!
Data Conference is not a substitute for examining student work on a more regular basis or disregarding assessment of all students.
What it is!
Data Conferencing is a process to systematically assess students who represent the range of learners in every classroom.
Based on this data, teachers adjust instruction to meet every learner’s needs.
Step 1
Identify four students who represent the range of learners in your classroom.
Step 2
The team identifies content area assessment that are reasonably efficient in administering and used over time to identify patterns.
Step 3
Create a timeline that delineates when to • Gather baseline data
• Schedule monthly times to administer assessments
Step 4
Plan a monthly team meeting to discuss findings and develop motivating instructional strategies.
The team reviews student progress based on the data, celebrates success, and looks for next-steps for all students.
Step 4 Examples
For students who are struggling to make adequate progress, the team looks for ways to accelerate their learning.
For students who are meeting or exceeding expectations, the team looks for ways to challenge and expand their learning.
Step 5
Team members set individual goals for themselves with a plan of action to improve instructional practice each month.
This process is intended to focus on using the data to develop strategies to enhance teaching.
Step 6
Team sets a specified time for meeting the following month.
