What caused the slowness?

• Focus was on pallets and cases– Insufficient tag volume

– ROI was difficult to justify

– Suppliers did not want to tag

• UHF was still “new”– Fragmented piloting – many experiments

– No conclusive, successful rollouts

Page 7: Rain webinar - SGH ver-5 · 2019-08-30 · Past: Adoption was slow 0 0.5 1 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 UHF RFID Tag Units in BILLIONS

What has changed?

• Proven applications in many markets– Retail apparel is the market driver

• Tag readability has improved dramatically– More than 10m read range with a small inlay

• Scalable/flexible systems meet user needs

• Metcalfe’s Law: A network’s value isproportional to the (number ofconnections)2

– RAIN= Billions of consumers × trillions of tags
