SOLAR ELECTRIC POWER

Solar electric or photovoltaic (PV) power is the process of capturing sunlight and converting

it to electricity by using solar PV modules and inverters. PV modules can be installed on a roof,

in a field, or anywhere that gets unobstructed sunlight. Solar Electric systems can be as small

or large as space and budget allow and can generate all of the energy needs for a business or

home. There are many possible configurations, and you can choose to sell just the excess

energy you generate to the utility company, all the energy you generate, or not to be connected

SOLAR THERMAL POWER

Solar thermal is another form of solar technology that captures the sun’s thermal energy to

heat water. On average, 10-20% of your energy usage is to heat water! So why not heat your

applications such as heating domestic hot water, space heating, and even heating pools

and spas. Solar thermal systems are extremely efficient and cost effective and will pay for

themselves within just a few years.

Payback for a solar PV system is now only 4-5 years for commercial and 8 years for residential

installations. The federal government offers a 30% tax credit (or grant for commercial) and the

states of Georgia and North Carolina offer 35% tax credits! So, 65% of the initial cost is covered

by government incentives on top of the savings provided by your system in the form of lower

utility bills.

Agricultural customers may also qualify for an additional 25% renewable energy grant as well

as loan guarantees from the USDA. Other financing options are available and are dependent

Trusco Capital’s fixed-income investment selection process includes

many of the same elements that exist within our equity selection process.

We employ the “bottom up” approach as well as full utilization of all of our

research capabilities in order to increase our clients’ investment opportunities,

while at the same time reducing risk – an especially important consideration

in the relatively inefficient fixed-income market.

Fixed-income investment choices.

With fixed-income investments, active management provides opportunities

for superior returns. This result can be achieved by strategically positioning

portfolios with a longer-term investment horizon rather than taking the more

tactical strategy of anticipating interest rates.

The universe of securities from which fixed-income selections are made

is determined by the analysis of portfolio benchmarks and client guidelines.

Securities in a given portfolio will come from a variety of sectors including

U.S. Government Treasury and Agencies, investment-grade and high-yield

corporates, asset and mortgage-backed securities, collateralized mortgage

obligations and, where applicable, tax exempt fixed-income securities.

A typical portfolio will hold from 50 to 70 securities that are approved by our

internal credit research team.

Portfolio management.

A client’s equity portfolio will be diversified in the number of securities held

and the sectors represented in each portfolio. A carefully crafted internal

investment policy governs the maximum security and sector weightings,

allowing us to control risk effectively. What’s more, each client’s portfolio is

monitored regularly to make certain that all equities in the portfolio continue to

fit the criteria by which they were selected.

Trusco Capital’s full team of analysts and portfolio managers are in close

communication with each other and with our clients to ensure that their

portfolios are shaped and reshaped according to specific company devel-

opments and underlying economic trends. Our advanced technology permits

analysts and managers to stay on top of late-breaking developments and

to act accordingly.

Although each portfolio manager has the final responsibility in the portfolio

construction process, their actions must comply with Trusco Capital’s stated

investment policy and guidelines for the applicable equity discipline. The

clients’ portfolios consist only of approved securities.

Trusco Capital believes that a “sell” decision is equally as important as a

“buy” decision. We have found that our sell discipline adds significant value

to our clients and enhances overall portfolio performance. We sell a stock

when the earnings trends and/or the fundamentals deteriorate, the invest-

ment thesis matures or where better opportunity exists in the marketplace.

Securities that are removed from the approved buy list must be liquidated

from client portfolios as soon as possible.

Research.

Trusco Capital utilizes a “bottom up” approach to equity selection, believing

that individual company characteristics are the dominant factors in the equity

selection process. Underlying this equity selection process is a combination

of both quantitative and fundamental research.

Quantitative research enables our team to canvass and monitor the market

efficiently, in order to identify potential candidates for further analysis. All

stocks that successfully meet the criteria of our proprietary screens then

undergo a thorough fundamental analysis. The purpose of this analysis is to

evaluate the company and the industry, to assess the sustainability of the

earnings and/or the stock’s valuation and to analyze how the market views

these companies.

All research is conducted in-house by our team of 20 equity analysts,

together with a team of 28 equity portfolio managers who assist in the

evaluation of the research and the development of an approved buy list from

which client portfolios are constructed. All decisions reached are based on

independent research and decision-making, rather than by reliance on

Wall Street for investment direction.
