Rail strikes Strike action is taking place on West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway during November and December. Key advice: If you’re planning to go Christmas shopping or visit the Christmas Market consider travelling into centres earlier and leaving earlier. The busiest time to travel around the West Midlands will be between 15:00-16:00. Leave more time for journeys: Other train companies are due to run a normal Saturday service but will be busier than usual. Don’t aim for the last train home, get to the station early and expect to queue. Plan ahead: Strike day timetables will be made available a few days before a strike day but could change last minute. Check your journey online at nationalrail.co.uk or with your train operator. Stick to public transport: The West Midlands Metro and West Midlands bus networks are a good alternative to train. The Metro is accepting West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway train tickets on a strike day. Find out more Our travel shop in New Street station is open 08:30 to 18:30 on a strike day.
