So step aboard your Victorian carriage, sit back, relax and savour some RAIL ALE.

slaynt vie!that’s our way of saying ‘cheers’!

Okells Brewery1850. It was the best of times…while Charles Dickens was busy promoting his newly published book David Copperfield, Dr. William Okell opened his Steam Brewery in the Isle of Man which set a new standard for innovation. It is a standard that Okells’ Head Brewer, Dr. Mike Cowbourne, continues today, along with another great Manx tradition…Purity.

This started with the Isle of Man Brewing Purity Law in 1874, forbidding the use of any ingredients other than malt, sugar, hops, yeast and water. Today that standard, combined with Dr Mike’s secret recipes, mean that Okells is a byword for Pure Pleasure.

further information:Manx licensing laws effectively permit 24 hours opening for any alcohol licensed premises. This law has several benefits including the aim of a reduction of binge drinking and the greater availability of taxis throughout the evening.

The choice of opening hours is down to the licensee of each premises but as a basic rule, most pubs are open daily from 12 noon to 11pm weekdays, staying open later on Fridays and Saturdays.

Bushy’s BreweryBushy’s Bar originally started in October 1984 and in 1986 it was decided to set up a mini brewery, brewing Old Bushy Tail, which proved very successful. The following years saw business boom, and encouraged by this the company decided to expand the brewery.

Bushy’s brews a wide range of real ales from refreshing ‘session’ ales to the glorious Oyster Stout with real oysters.

Our Head Brewer is a real ‘hands on’ brewer who is involved at every stage of the process - including the consumption of the finished product! He has a passion for real ale, and that passion shines through in the quality of his work.
