Performance tests and ratings are measured using specific computer systems and/or components and reflect the approximate performance of Intel products as measured by those tests. Any difference in system hardware or software design or configuration may affect actual performance. Buyers should consult other sources of information to evaluate the performance of systems or components they are considering purchasing. Intel does not control or audit the design or implementation of third party benchmarks or Web sites referenced in this document. Intel encourages all of its customers to visit the referenced Web sites or others where similar performance benchmarks are reported and confirm whether the referenced benchmarks are accurate and reflect performance of systems available for purchase.
Intel processor numbers are not a measure of performance. Processor numbers differentiate features within each processor family, not across different processor families. See www.intel.com/products/processor_number for details.
Intel, processors, chipsets, and desktop boards may contain design defects or errors known as errata, which may cause the product to deviate from published specifications. Current characterized errata are available on request.
Intel Virtualization Technology requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, virtual machine monitor (VMM) and applications enabled for virtualization technology. Functionality, performance or other virtualization technology benefits will vary depending on hardware and software configurations. Virtualization technology-enabled BIOS and VMM applications are currently in development.
64-bit computing on Intel architecture requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel® 64 architecture. Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations. Consult with your system vendor for more information.

Hardware RAID Advantage Superior Data Protection
• Independent of the OS and system resources. Thus, data is not compromised any time
there is a crash, system reset, or power loss.
• RAID levels 6/60 (double parity) to protect against the failure of two drives simultaneously
• Spare drive features like dedicated hot spare and revertible hot spare which simplify
recovery from failure
Advanced Manageability • Online Capacity Expansion (OCE) and RAID Level Migration (RLM)
• SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) for pertinent diagnostics (ex. temp, voltage)
• Consistent features and tools across virtual machines; whereas SWR features and tools
will vary with the guest OS
• Superior event logs and event log access
Application Acceleration • Designed to positively impact user experience by optimizing I/O using dedicated
resources; rather than competing for application resources
• Supports 1024 outstanding I/Os whereas SWR only supports 16
• Embedded cache for read ahead & write back performance improvement
• Significantly shorter rebuild times
• Offers FastPath* I/O option to optimize SSD performance (up to 465K IOPs)

• Reduces IO latency Increases the number of operations running in
parallel on a system by using high speed memory instead of rotating media
• Accelerates RAID parity schemes
Particularly advantageous for RAID 5 and RAID 6 Writes which requires temporary storage
Benefits of Cache Backup Technology
20
Intel RAID Write Cache Settings
1. Write Back:
– Write operations complete when cache receives data
– Better performance/higher risk
– Cache backup solution recommended
2. Write Through:
– Write operations complete when disks receives data
– Better data protection with no battery present
3. Forced Write Back:
– Select this mode to use Write Back mode with no BBU or a bad BBU
Also note that data is buffered in controller memory in order to perform
parity calculations

Three Optional Keys for Mainstream and
Scalable Performance SAS-2 Products:
SSD Cache 2 with FastPath* I/O
• SSD Cache 2.: Uses solid-state drives (SSDs) as additional cache
for the RAID controller; write and frequently accessed data is stored
in cache to allow for write optimization and rapid access
• FastPath I/O: Accelerates SSDs using optimized code that delivers
up to 465,000 I/O reads per second; a dramatic increase over
solutions that do not use FastPath
Drive Encryption Management
• Enables authentication key management, auto-lock, and instant
erase of self-encrypting drives
• Helps reduce risk of data being compromised when drives
eventually leave the data center
Rapid Recovery Snapshot
• Allows users to capture source volume data changes and either
restore files or roll back applications to a previous point
• Allows isolation of a server’s boot volume to a separate virtual drive;
by enabling the Auto Snapshot feature, a bootable snapshots is
guaranteed in case of OS corruption

Drive Encryption Management
• Auto-Lock – The drive locks, and the data is
secured, the moment a drive is removed from a system
– Makes data unreadable and useless to anyone who is not authorized to access it
• Instant Erase – <1 second sanitization of hard drive
data for secure disposal or reuse of drive
Combine with Full Disk Encryption (FDE)-capable drives to offer:
Why Self-Encrypting Drives with Encryption Management?
All drives eventually leave the data center
• “Smash and Grab” theft
• Retirement
• Redeployment
• Failure
Data Breaches are Expensive
• Average cost per compromised record was $202 in 2008*
Governments mandate compliance

Rapid Recovery Snapshot (MegaRAID technology based)
Snapshot-Enabled Data Protection:
Up to 8 snapshot Point in Time‟s (PiTs) are supported per volume
Easy file restoration by mounting a View of each PiT‟s content and simply dragging the needed file(s) from the snapshot view to the source view
Two Primary Recovery Scenarios:
1.ONLINE Missing/Deleted File(s) (Restore from View)
• User discovers missing or deleted file
• User drags and drops the missing file from Snaphot View back into the current Source View
2.OFFLINE: Volume Corruption (Roll-back)
• User‟s system crashes
• User boots to WebBIOS and selects PiT to roll back to.

Recovery Snapshots
Enhances data protection by offering Snapshot functionality. This feature allows the user to capture source
volume data changes and either restore it from view, or rollback to a previous point in time should either
accidental or malicious data deletion occur.
Space-efficient snapshot; tracks changes to PiT only Space-efficient snapshot; tracks changes to PiT only
Why Rapid Recovery Snapshot?
User Scenario Snapshot/Recovery Action Benefit

r Patch/Upgrade Staging
Administrator rolls-back a volume if a bad patch gets installed
Avoids having to reinstall the entire application, restore from backup or wait for a patch fix
System Restore Snapshot taken before deployment is used to restore system
System builder can quickly restore from off-site without reinstalling applications
Client
OS Boot Block/Volume Protection
Roll-back to a point-in-time prior to an OS corruption
Huge time savings versus a complete OS reinstall or restore from backup
File Restoration Previous version of a deleted or corrupted file restored
Access to restored files is instantaneous. Risk of loss can be reduced by frequent snapshots.
Security Camera Archiving*
Security cameras roll over every 24 hours. Snapshots are taken every 24 hours. Video is retrievable for all 8 days back.
Takes advantage of video compression writing data only on changing pixels. Reduces drive capacity and IT resource requirements.
Faster, easier, & less resource intensive than data duplication
Rapid Recovery Snapshot tracks changes to data from the time a snapshot is taken; rather than duplicate data.
