WNEG has hosted this event for the last several years as a home show, but this year decided to change it a bit. The Quality of Life Shows aim this year was to incorporate more vendors and exhibitors covering health and wellness topics. Stephens County and WNEG have a lovely, involved group of cizens who aended the event, many of whom we had met previously at the same event. Several individuals said they had tested their homes for radon and even convinced their family member and neighbors to do the same based on our presence at the event before. Several new individuals we met were very interested in tesng their homes for radon as well. It is always nice to reconnect with local cizens at events like these and to hear updates on how their radon tests went. This years Quality of Life Show was a success and we hope to connue to parcipate in the future. Athens-Clarke County Employee Health Fair The Georgia Radon Program also parcipated in the annual Athens-Clarke County Em- ployee Health fair this year. Our program has been invited to this event for several years run- ning to educate ACC Employees on the importance of tesng their homes for radon. ACC Employees are encouraged and given me from their employers to aend the event, which makes for a great turn-out every year. Once again, we were able to interact with many people we had met previously, either at this event or local programs we have been in- vited to provide. The Georgia Radon Program is always honored to aend this event and looks forward to connued collaboraons in the future.

Stephens County Quality of Life Show

In April the Georgia Radon Program participated in the Quality of Life Show hosted by Ste-

phens County’s WNEG radio station. WNEG has hosted this event for the last several years as a

home show, but this year decided to change it a bit. The Quality of Life Show’s aim this year was

to incorporate more vendors and exhibitors covering health and wellness topics.

Stephens County and WNEG have a lovely, involved group of citizens who attended the

event, many of whom we had met previously at the same event. Several individuals said they

had tested their homes for radon and even convinced their family member and neighbors to do

the same based on our presence at the event before. Several new individuals we met were very

interested in testing their homes for radon as well.

It is always nice to reconnect with local citizens at events like these and to hear updates

on how their radon tests went. This year’s Quality of Life Show was a success and we hope to

continue to participate in the future.

Athens-Clarke County Employee Health Fair

The Georgia Radon Program also participated in the annual Athens-Clarke County Em-

ployee Health fair this year. Our program has been invited to this event for several years run-

ning to educate ACC Employees on the importance of testing their homes for radon.

ACC Employees are encouraged and given time from their employers to attend the

event, which makes for a great turn-out every year. Once again, we were able to interact with

many people we had met previously, either at this event or local programs we have been in-

vited to provide. The Georgia Radon Program is always honored to attend this event and looks

forward to continued collaborations in the future.

Barrow County Radon Outreach

April 2018 saw the first ever Barrow County Employee Health Fair and our program was

able to attend and provide an exhibit through our great connection with the Barrow County Ex-

tension Office. According to lab results we have been able to obtain, Barrow County consistent-

ly tests as one of Georgia’s highest counties in terms of the percentage of test kits that come

back elevated, which is anything 4.0 picocuries per liter or above. Approximately over 36% of

test kits are considered elevated for this area, so it is very important that our program pro-

motes testing and radon awareness here.

Much like the Athens-Clarke County Health Fair, Barrow County employees were encour-

aged to attend this event. We were able to provide radon education to around 60 individuals,

many of whom had not been aware of the need to test.

We were also able to make a connection with the local Rotary Club to provide a pro-

gram over lunch a few weeks later. The Rotary Club of Winder has several very active members

who made for a great audience for our program. Some of the visiting members from other local

clubs were interested in having the same program done for their home clubs as well.

While testing for radon is important no matter where you live, our program was very ex-

cited to bring radon education to an area where high levels of radon occur very frequently.

L to R: Alicia Holloway (Barrow County Extension Agent), Gabrielle Dean (UGA Radon Program Extension Educator),

and Sunita Singh (Rotary Club of Winder President) presenting books donated on behalf of the Rotary Club of Winder

after the Radon Presentation.
