Radio Trails Analysis (CHANEL)
Trail for(station/channel)
Wildlife Documentary (BBC 2)
Target audience Target audience are most likely to be middle age, both men and women, who enjoy watching wildlife programmes and/or have a passion for wildlife &
nature.
Tone of voice? There are 2 voice throughout the whole radio trail. The first voice is a female voice over. She has a very relaxed tone to her voice, however it is also confident and formal. She helps to inform the audience of the important information, such as date and time of the documentary.
Sound effects?(SFX)
No sound effects used.
Wildtrack/ambient sound?
Archival footage from the documentary was used- Stephen Fry talking about particular animals.
Use of music? There is a clear use of background music throughout the radio trail. The music relates to the documentary topic, which also helps the audience to
keep interest & quickly recognize the topic being discussed.
How many tracks? Two tracks are used in the trail. One is for the voiceovers & one is for the background music.
Sound levels? Sound levels are quite consistent throughout the length of the trail. The voice overs are constantly changing with volume, however they still remain
high enough for the audience to hear. Stephen Fry’s voice is quitter than the female voice when he first speaks, but this is because the sound clip was
taken from the documentary (where he has to talk quietly due to the animals).
The female voice is slightly louder than Fry’s voice, which may be due to the fact that the important information needs to be clearly heard by listeners.
Length? Approx 35 seconds
Other notes/common elements/conventions
The documentary topic is quite clear, due to the use of an insert from the documentary itself.
