RULES 10th Annual Marble Falls Soapbox Classic April 26-28, 2019

1. Car cannot be longer than 8 feet, 1 inch. 2. Car cannot be wider than 4 feet, 1 inch. 3. Car weight limit: 225 pounds without driver (or passenger in Jamaican Division). If your car has batteries for lights, dry-cell batteries only. No car, motorcycle or lawnmower batteries permitted. *Octane Division weight limit is different. 4. Car must be steerable, capable of 90 degree turn on average street corner. 5. Car must have some form of effective braking system besides Fred Flintstone Feet. 6. Car must have a minimum of three wheels on the ground (your choice of wheels). 7. Cars must not be power assisted in any way. No acceleration using potential energy devices such as springs will be allowed. Kinetic energy such as the movement of the driver within the car is acceptable (e.g. rocking back and forth), as long as the driver makes no contact with the ground. The overall weight of the car cannot be changed once a race begins. 8. Cars must have tow hook (or eye bolt) front and back so that they can be towed back to the pit area. 9. Each car may have up to two drivers in both the Speed and the Powder Puff Divisions. If the same car but different drivers reach the same point in the brackets except for the Grand Finals, the team must choose a winner. In the event that each of the drivers reaches the Grand Finals, each can race for time in the Speed Division. An individual driver may enter more than one car but needs a back-up driver in the event that his cars meet in the bracket with that one racer as the driver for both. Or the driver must choose which car advances when the cars meet. 10. Designated drivers, riders and pushers must refrain from alcoholic beverages for the duration of their competitive efforts; subject to disqualification. 11. After official announcement to move to the starting line, your team crew will be responsible for getting your car and driver or driver/rider/pusher to the starting line at Third and Main in a timely manner. Failure to do so may result in penalties or immediate disqualification. 12. If a car does not show up to race, the racer receives a loss for that race. The race doesn’t count for the driver that does show up. This is for the purposes of the All Star and Super Star Brackets. 13. If they choose to, the racers of each individual race may flip a coin to decide who gets to pick the lane they race in. 14. In the event of repairs, prior notification to a Race Official will give 20-30 minute allowance in bracket competition. Vehicle must then be inspected for race worthiness. If there is any question about road worthiness, a road test of one run may be required. 15. All drivers and riders must sign individual liability waivers. No exceptions. Age limits are from 16 on up. Those under sixteen are required to have parent or legal guardian sign liability waiver at the racing site witnessed by Derby official. 16. Safety: Mandatory gear includes helmets for all drivers and riders (bicycle helmet or better), closed toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops), Racing goggles are recommended. Seatbelts and/or harnesses are recommended. Safe racing is a must: you will not be allowed to race without being properly equipped. 17. Failure to race in a sportsmanlike manner will result in automatic disqualification. We are all here to have fun! 18. Mandatory Driver Meeting and Registration will take place downtown Marble Falls on a date in June, at a time and place TBA online and via press release. There will be a racer meeting scheduled Friday afternoon of race weekend for the Out-of-Town Racers 19. No bright/neon Orange racing team shirts. NASDA Officials should be the only team wearing bright Orange shirts. They need to be easily recognizable for safety and organizational reasons. 20. MANDATORY VOLUNTEER: Each registered car MUST provide one (1) volunteer. Each volunteer is required to work

a 3 hour volunteer shift. Remember that this event will not happen without volunteers and its future depends on them.

Volunteers must be 17 years of age or older and must be able to assist in the physical demands involved in the set up

and/or breakdown duties. Volunteers will be scheduled within the following hours: Friday 8am-4pm, Sunday 2pm –

6pm. Volunteers from race teams traveling from outside of the Hill Country will be scheduled to volunteer during the

actual event. Teams will not be allowed to race if your volunteer is not accounted for. There will be a billboard at the

event with a schedule posted. Volunteers can sign up for a volunteer task that interests them.

The Adult Soapbox Derby Association reserves the right to modify, amend, or add and delete certain of these rules prior to the event. All participants should check

the event website for any changes. Race day modifications of rules may be made by the Race Master as a function of safety. Structure of the races may be altered

due to either large or small number of entries to ensure everyone gets an equal opportunity to race and show their vehicle.
