Dear beloved Swusy-ite, Congratulations on your admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! We here at the headmasters office have been hard at work preparing for your arrival. It all started several months ago when we came up with the theme for this term. Since then, we’ve been busy planning all the amazing activities you’ve enjoyed. From brainstorming the best rules for Quidditch to planning awesome services, we’ve had lots to do to prepare for this term. One of the best things that happened during planning was when Maury’s wand backfired and we had to spend the rest of the meeting talking to a frog!We hope you’ve had as wonderful time at convention as we had planning it, and we hope to see you again soon!

YewA powerful wandwood, which due to its poisonous sap, it has Dark leanings. This is the wood

of Lord Voldemort wand.

VinewoodTends to be extremely erratic taking strong wizard/witch to overcome it. This is Hermione

Granger’s wand.

ElderThe wood of the most powerful wand in existence. It is not a particularly common wandwood because of the back-fire dangers in using it.

CoreDragon Heartstring

An extremely common core, it is good for easy-to-learn and powerful spells. It is used by Hermione Granger, Bellatrix Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy,

and Professor McGonagall.

Phoenix FeatherThis wand core creates wands that learn extremely varied magic, but it very hard to be chosen by a Phoenix Feather wand. This is the wand core of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort, whose feathers both came from

Dumbledores Phoenix.

Unicorn HairThis core creates a good Charms and Transfiguration wand. Unicorn Hair is also the best core for healing and is common amongst Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy and Cedric Diggory all use

this core.

Veela HairComing from the hair of a temperamental creature, this wand is quite volatile. Veela’s are also quite intelligent, making this core common for Ravenclaws. This core is in the wand of Fleur Delacour, whose

Grandmother was a Veela.

Garrick Ollivanderis widely considered to be the best wandmaker in the entire world, and most witches and wizards purchase wands from his shop. He is the son of a wandmaker and grew up practicing the trade, but revolutionized the world of wandmaking with his theory that the wand chooses the wizard, rather than the other way around. He also ended the practice of wandmakers creating cores out of things that the Wizard provided in favor of using much more powerful cores, like Dragon Heartstring

and Phoenix Feathers.

Gregorovitchis another important wandmaker in the world of Harry Potter. He came into possession of the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in existence, and tried in vain to duplicate its powers. He foolishly boasted that he had the most powerful wand in the world, hoping to give his business a boost. Instead it attracted Grindelwald, who stole the wand from him. Voldemort eventually hunted down Gregorovitch on his search for the Elder Wand and upon finding out that Gregorovitch no longer had it or any information on it,

killed him.
