Race Day Information: The Enormous Elephant Run: Freestyle LA on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at Griffith Park!

Thank you for joining our herd and running/walking with us to raise funds for The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s lifesaving conservation work! Here is the race day information for our event. Please note that event parking is limited. We highly recommend using a ride-share service like Uber or Lyft, carpooling as much as

possible, or arranging transportation drop-off and pick-up with family or friends.

EARLY PACKET PICK-UP

We highly encourage you to pick up your packet on Friday to avoid long lines at registration on race day. If you will be picking up your packet on race day, plan to arrive by 8:00am. Make sure to review the race day parking instructions ahead of time so you can plan your departure accordingly. Limited parking spots available in their parking lot, so bring change for street parking.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me? Yes, as long as you have already signed your participant waiver online.

Participants picking up their packet on March 9th between 4pm and 8pm will receive 15% off in-store products at Fleet Feet Sports – Burbank.

RACE DAY PARKING

On-site parking is very limited, so please plan ahead for drop-off and pick-up. We highly recommend using a ride-share service like Uber or Lyft or arranging transportation with family or friends. Insert the address 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027-1401 into your GPS/Uber/Lyft and then have them take a right so you drive past the Pote Baseball field. Once you pass the baseball field and drive down the hill, you will be facing the Crystal Springs Picnic Area Reserve, which is where the Enormous Elephant Run will be held.

If you do need to drive, the areas highlighted in blue on the map below show the best parking locations. There is additional parking located at the Merry Go Round Lots 1, 2, and 3.

If you are a participant and need to pick up your packet on race morning, you need to pick up your packet at registration no later than 8:30am. This will allow us to ensure a prompt time for the 5k.

RACE DAY PACKET PICK-UP & REGISTRATION AT CRYSTAL SPRINGS PICNIC AREA

Race day packet pick-up and day-of registration will be located on the far-left side of the race area. To avoid waiting in line, you can pick up your packet and t-shirt the night before, at Fleet Feet Sports – Burbank between 4pm – 8pm. Participants can register for the run at the race; however, please note that the registration price will be increased to $55 (versus the $49 if you registered online ahead of the race). There is also a possibility the race will sell out and we will not be able to take registrations the day at the event. Please check The Enormous Elephant Run website at: www.enormouselephantrun.com/los-angeles ahead of time if you were planning on signing up at the event.

COURSE MAP

The 5k fun run will begin promptly at 9am. All participants need to be registered and pick-up their packets no later than 8:30am on race day. The course is a mostly flat dirt trail that loops around a golf course. The start and finish area are in the same place. There will be a water station along the course, as well as mile markers every half mile and course monitors.

GEAR/BAG CHECK

There will be no official gear or bag check, so participants should prepare ahead accordingly and bring with them only the items they may need. If you do decide to leave your personal items at the venue on race day, this is done so at your own risk.

RACE DAY SWAG

This stylish race t-shirt and finisher’s medal are included with your registration! (The Virtual Registration comes with the race t-shirt only; however you can purchase the finisher’s medal by emailing Heather Carr at the DSWT USA office at heather@sheldrickwildlifetrust.org or by calling our office at 949-305-3785).

DOG REGISTRATION

Your furry, 4 legged friends are welcome to attend our Enormous Elephant Run! Registration is $10 per dog and can be done online ahead of time (preferred method) or on race day, and each dog will receive one of our stylish DSWT dog bandanas! One size fits most (dimensions: 22” L x 22” W x 31.1” H). Dogs must be on a leash at all times. (Please note that only dogs who are registered before the race will be guaranteed a DSWT dog bandana.)

FAQs

If there is a chance of rain, will the race be cancelled?

• Although there is no sign of rain in the event day forecast, please be aware that The Enormous Elephant Run: Freestyle LA will go on rain or shine.

If I register at the event, can I pay with cash/check/credit card?

• Yes. Cash, check, and credit cards are accepted. Make checks out to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA.

I have family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors coming to watch me. Do they need to register for the race too?

• Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer you on at the start and finish line, and do not need to register for the event.

Will results be posted? How can I see what my time was?

• Results will be available online at the Gemini Timing booth located at the event, as well as online.

Do I need to wear an elephant costume?

• Nope, not unless you want to! This is our Freestyle event, which means that you are free to wear whatever best suits your style, whether that’s an elephant suit, a tutu, or regular running gear.
