BMW CCA Club Racing season opens at Florida's WinterfestIf it's January, it's time for Winterfest at

Sebring, the traditional season opener for theTire Rack BMW CCA Club Racing series.This year, the points-paying sprints were wonby Allan Lewis-one of the five Canadianswho made their way south for the event-and South Atlantic region racer Ty Krieger,running his f i rst Club race.

Winterfest, hosted by Sunshine Bimmers,is a four-day event that begins on Thursdaywith a six-hour enduro and runs on throughthe weekend. Many professional teams usethe event as an opportunity to tune up for theseason: James Clav's entire Bimmerworld

team was there, along with a host of pro rac-ers from several series. Just two races. sprintson Saturday and Sunday,'count toward BMWCCA Club Racing points. The Club racersrun with a variety of cars, among themPorsches, Mustangs, Miatas, Radical sportsracers, and BMWs that are not part of theTire Rack series.

Pacific Northwest's BMW PR0-3 series set for 2009 seasonPRO-3 finished the 2008 season with its

first two-time champion, Jeff Van Lierop ofCountry Green Racing (Olympia, Washing-ton)-but the twelve-race E30 series held atPacific Northwest race tracks had to waituntil the final race to crown him. AndrewNewell of Strictly BMW Racing took thepole for the final race in Seattle to earnenough points to create a tie with Van Lieropgoing into the race on Sunday. That greenflag released a 26-car PRO-3 field which sawVan Lierop best Newell by a couple of sec-onds at the finish, eighteen laps later. Withthe win, Van Lierop took the series champi-onship by a mere three points,249 to 245.

Car counts were up 24Vo in 2008, with onaverage of seventeen PRO-3 cars per race

versus thirteen in 2007. In total,40 E30s havebeen built to the PRO-3 formula,'racingexclusively within the International Confer-ence of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC) at fourvenues in the Pacific Northwest. Off thetrack, the PRO-3 drivers raised money in theSeptember for the Doernbecher Dash to sup-

pofi the Portland, Oregon, Doembecher Chil-dren's Hospital. PRO-3 also issued theirannual PRO-3 calendar for2009, featuringimages from series photographer Curtis Crea-ger (www.creagerimages.com).

Toyo Tires will continue as the main spon-sor of PRO-3 in 2009, with Speedware
