There was a lot of conversation and some great ideas discussed. As with any organization, we need volunteers to step up and volunteer to take on some roles in order to help us implement your ideas. Here are some ways that you can volunteer immediately. Open house – we will hold an open house this summer on Sunday, July 29 th from 10AM to Noon so spread the word. We will need some volunteers to be present to chat with prospective members. Let us know if you can volunteer that day. Also, if you know of anyone looking for a place to be for High Holidays, invite them to the open house. We will have High Holiday packets as well as information about the synagogue. Membership is key to our continued success. Be a minyan volunteer – attend services on a regular basis each month so that members in the community can say kaddish. It is the opportunity to come together with fellow members of Adat Chaim as a community. Services are meaningful, but are much more spiritual and “alive” when we have more voices chanting prayers and celebrating Shabbat together. Just as important is the time we spend together after services at kiddush, chatting and catching up socially. Torah, Haftorah and Shabbat services – if you are willing to share your Torah/Haftorah reading skills or expertise in leading Shabbat services, we have just the right fit for you. The Ritual Committee is looking for volunteers to assist in this area. Please reach out to us and we will put your skills to work. From The Office … Our summer months can be a little slower than most. We appreciate your calls and e-mails. Please note that we do not have someone in the office every day of the week. It is best to call ahead if you want to stop by for information or to drop off your High Holiday packet with all of your paperwork filled out. You can, of course, mail it to the synagogue. For your convenience, office hours are generally on Monday and Thursdays from 10AM – 1PM. If you need to get ahold of us att the synagogue office, please use the phone and e-mail listed below. Our calendar of services, events and happenings can also be found on our website. Remember that the synagogue is supported through the Amazon Smiles program. From The President …

Our annual congregational meeting took place on Sunday, June 10th. We had a great turnout with 60% of our congregation in attendance. Thank you to Jerry Newman for stepping up to run the meeting in my absence. There was a lot of conversation and some great ideas discussed. As with any organization, we need volunteers to step up and volunteer to take on some roles in order to help us implement your ideas. Here are some ways that you can volunteer immediately.

Open house – we will hold an open house this summer on Sunday, July 29th from 10AM to Noon so spread the word.

From The Office …

Our summer months can be a little slower than most. We appreciate your calls and e-mails. Please note that we do not have someone in the office every day of the week. Ritual Committee Jerry Newman, Chair [email protected] 410.581.7884 For guidance and support of all your life cycle events, please contact Rabbi Seidler. The synagogue can also help with a variety of services for you. This might include: phone squad or e-mail announcements to the congregation, coverage for services needed for yahrzeit or shiva, meals, visits, rides to the doctor or any other assistance that you might need. We continue to hold Shabbat morning services each week at 9:30AM. During the summer months, Rabbi Seidler will be leading services on the following dates: June 30th, July 7th, August 11th, 18th and 25th. Lay leaders will conduct services on July 14th, 21st and 28th and on August 4th. We appreciate your attendance at services each week so that we can ensure a minyan. The Ritual Committee is always looking for a few extra members who are willing to lead services in part or whole on dates that the Rabbi is not here. Please contact me if you can lend your skills in this area. High Holiday planning and preparations is under way. You should have received your packet in the mail. If not, contact the synagogue office so that one may be sent out to you.

Yahrzeits The families listed below will be observing Yahrzeit for family members during the month.

If you have a Yahrzeit and don’t see it in the bulletin or wish to be included on the list for a relative’s Yahrzeit, please call the office and we will be happy to update our database.

If you need a minyan for any reason during the week or on Shabbat, please contact

Jerry Newman at [email protected] so that he can arrange it for you. To assist us in arranging a minyan, please give at least two weeks’ notice, allowing time for the Ritual

“The Lewin Family of Könnern”

Please join us on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., at the Pikesville Library’s meeting room, 1301 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, to hear Kira

Dolcimascolo present “The Lewin Family of Könnern.” In this presentation, Kira Dolcimascolo tells the story of her great-great-grandparents, Jacob and Täubchen Lewin, who lived Könnern, a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, in the late 19th century. She provides some background for each of their families in small towns in Poland (Pinne) and Germany (Gröbzig), and recounts the fates of Jacob and Täubchen’s seven children, their spouses, and their grandchildren as they successfully—and unsuccessfully—sought to escape the grip of rising Fascism in Germany. She will share resources for German/Prussian Jewish genealogy and will describe creative techniques for finding Jewish-German ancestors in small towns in Germany and around the globe. Kira Dolcimascolo has lived in Baltimore for 29 years. She has actively researched her Jewish-German and Sicilian roots for the past 5 years; her knowledge of her ancestors from Germany/Prussia now extends to the 17th and 18th centuries. When not obsessively researching her family’s genealogy, she works as a school-based occupational therapist and assists her husband with their painting and decorating business.

The program is free for paid members and $5 for non-members (applied to membership fee when a visitor joins JGSMD) after their first meeting. Refreshments will be available. Please check our web site at www.jgsmd.org for late updates and for the time, location, and program of future meetings.
