DESCRIPTION

The Electro-Voice R200 is a series of UHF wire-less systems that combine EVs legendary quality, reliability and high value. The R200 Series trans-mitters and receivers operate in the UHF fre-quency range between 710.100 and 721.350 MHz(channels 54-55 in the TV band) on single fre-quencies. The well-designed audio circuitry en-sures excellent signal-to-noise ratio with accuratesound quality.

SECURE-PHASEtm DIVERSITY

The R200 Series receivers utilize patented Se-cure-Phasetm diversity circuitry that provides thestrongest, cleanest signal possible. Unlike otherdiversity circuits that switch antennas, Secure-Phasetm utilizes the signal from both antennas atall times to increase signal strength, minimizedropouts and lower the potential for interference.

If the signal from the transmitter changes phaseor polarity (a common cause of dropouts), the cir-cuit adjusts the phase angle between the two an-tennas receiving circuits to prevent cancellation.

QUICK SETUP AND USE

To get your system into operation quickly, use thefollowing instructions. Review the rest of themanual for additional setup and operational de-tails.

1. Place the receiver where there is a clear lineof sight to the area where the transmitter willbe used (Figure 1). Extend the receivers an-tennas and separate them 90 degrees (seeFigure 2).

2. Make sure the sound systems volume is lowor off on the input you intend to use for thewireless.

3. Plug in the receivers power adapter into anAC outlet and the other end into the receiver.CAUTION: Please make sure that the ACadapter is the correct voltage for your lo-cal requirements.

4. Plug the audio cable (not supplied) into eitheroutput connector. The 3-pin XLR-type con-

nector is the preferred choice since the outputis balanced. Either connector may be usedwith good results.

5. Turn the output level control (see Figure 2) onthe front panel to the 12:00 oclock position(midway in the controls range) if the ¼-inchconnector is used (the 3-pin XLR-type con-nector has fixed level).

6. Setup and adjust the transmitter level as de-scribed on the following pages.

7. Turn up the level on the mixer or preamp tothe desired setting.

8. Speak into the microphone or strum the in-strument and, if necessary, adjust thereceivers output until the volume level fromthe wireless system approximates the level ofan equivalent wired microphone or instru-ment.

9. Walk the expected area of use to check fordropouts or interference. If problems occur, see the troubleshooting section.

HTU HANDHELD TRANSMITTER SETUP

1. Insert battery. Slide open the battery com-partment cover by placing your thumb on theindents of the battery door (at the back end ofthe transmitter) and gently pull down (see Fig-ure 3).

2. Turn on the transmitter by sliding the powerswitch (closest to the battery compartment)forward to its on position, toward the mic ele-ment. The red battery condition light shouldflash once and then go out. If the red LEDstays on or illuminates during a performance,it should be replaced immediately. The greenLED will stay lit when the transmitter is on.

3. Check reception. Observe that the audiocarrier light on the front panel of the receiveris illuminated, an indication that the receiver ispicking up the signal. Then, walk the in-tended area of use and make sure that thereare no barriers to reception or sources of in-terference.

4. Unmute the audio by sliding the audio switch(immediately below the mic element) towardsthe windscreen.

5. Adjust the gain if necessary. First, speak orsing into the microphone and listen closely fordistortion or hiss. If the gain is too low or high, adjustments are necessary. Gently insert theprovided screwdriver (or other 3/32-in. screw-driver) into the hole near the head of thetransmitter (see Figure 4). Turn lightly untilthe screwdriver tip drops into the slot in thelevel control. Gently turn counterclockwiseuntil the control stops (the mic output is at-tenuated but not off). Slowly turn the mic-level control while listening to the audio. If theaudio becomes distorted, turn the mic levelcontrol counter-clockwise about 1/8 turn.

6. Adjust the squelch control if necessary. The squelch control on the back of the re-ceiver may be adjusted to increase range orreduce interference. Turn the control counter-

clockwise to increase range. Caution! In-creasing the range will make the systemmore susceptible to outside interference! If the squelch is being adjusted, turn the

transmitter off. Turn the squelch controlcounter-clockwise until you hear noise or in-terference. Then, turn the squelch clockwiseuntil the noise is gone.

4. Check reception by observing that the RFcarrier light is illuminated on the receiversfront panel.

5. Turn on the audio transmission by slidingthe large mute switch to the on position.

6. Listen carefully to the audio and be sensi-tive of overload distortion and low gain orhiss.

7. Adjust the gain if necessary. Gently insertthe provided screwdriver or other 3/32-in. (2.5mm) screwdriver into the gain adjustment lo-cated at the top edge of the battery compart-ment under the door. The door has to beopened but not swung upward to make ad-justments. Turn lightly until the screwdriver tipdrops into the slot on the level control. Gentlyturn the control counterclockwise until thecontrol stops (the audio output is attenuatedbut not off). Slowly turn the audio level con-trol clockwise while listening to audio; if theaudio becomes distorted, turn the mic levelcontrol counter-clockwise about 1/8 turn.

8. Clip the bodypack to the users belt or to apocket. The bodypack can be positioned hori-zontally or vertically by moving the belt clipattachment. Removing the belt clip attach-ment screw and moving it 90 degrees willchange the orientation.

BODYPACK TRANSMITTER SETUP

1. Insert battery. Open the hinged battery com-partment by placing your thumb or finger onthe indent on the battery door and pull down. When inserting the battery, pay attention tothe polarity (+/-) and insert the terminals intothe battery compartment first. Close the bat-tery door by sliding the door shut.

2. Turn on the transmitter by sliding the powerswitch to its on position. Check the conditionof the battery by looking at the LED below thepower switch. The red battery light shouldflash once and then go out. If the LED stayson, the battery is weak and should be re-placed.

3. Prepare the audio source by attaching thelavalier microphone to the user, placing theheadset on the users head or plugging thecable into the instrument (depending on whattype of system you have). Keep the audiomuted while plugging in and adjusting themicrophone or source. Placement oflavalier and headset microphones will notice-ably change the sound quality, so some ex-perimentation with the user is necessary.

COMPATIBILITY

The receiver and transmitter must be on the sameUHF frequency to operate together. Because ofthe specialized equipment required to adjustthese units properly, users cannot change the fre-quencies or make any internal adjustments.

If two or more R200 and/or other VHF/UHF wire-less systems are being used in the same location, proper frequency coordination is necessary toavoid interference. Frequency mixing and spacingmust be factored along with local TV stations todetermine if conflicts will result from a specificgroup. Contact your dealer or Electro-Voice forfrequency-selection assistance if you are planningto add more wireless systems to be operated si-multaneously in the same location.

POTENTIAL SOURCES OF INTERFERENCE

There are many potential sources of interferencefor your wireless system. Any electronic compo-

nent that contains digital circuitry including digitalsignal processors (reverb/multi-effects units),electronic keyboards, digital lighting controllers,CD players and computers all emit rf energy thatcan affect the performance of your wireless sys-tem. It is always best to place your receiver as faraway from these devices as possible to minimizethis potential source of problems.

BATTERY RECOMMENDATIONS

Fresh 9-volt alkaline batteries from a qualitymanufacturer will yield the best performance fromR200 transmitters. 8.4-volt ni-cad batteries can beused but will yield much shorter operational time. When the transmitter switch is turned on, the bat-tery light will flash one time if the battery is good.If the light does not flash or stays lit continuously, the battery is weak or dead. If the light comes onduring use, the battery is weakening and shouldbe replaced as soon as possible.
