A harvest hand gets going You look at him one instant and You see him calmly mowing- You wouldnt think if forty bells Should ring that he would hear them Or if ten banquets beckoned him That he would venture near them He looks as whipped out as a rag And dead to all attraction But you want to hear the dinner bell I To see his triple action You want to see him double up As if he had the colic And tear the field up setting out Upon that little frolic- It is as if the fumes of beans Had reached him or the vision Of chicken had appeared to him Or else that some Elysian Mirage had shown him corn ORLANDO TOOK THE FIRST GAME

Those of our citizens and the visit ¬

ors within our gates who assembled-at the Main street baseball diamondyesterday afternoon to witness theinitial game of the season betweenOrlando and Ocala had the pleasureof seeing one of the best and cleanestgames ever played on the diamondAlthough the score was one to noth ¬

ing at the close of the ninth inning-in favor of the visiting team thosewho saw the game were perfectlysatisfied with the result for thoughOcala lost the boys on the home teamplayed good ball and every one isproud of them

The only run of the game was made-in the fifth Inning by the Orlandoteam on an error and from then on itwas a closely waged contest Galloway-who plays with the team as a regularplayer this year distinguished himself-at the bat yesterday and promises tomake a hard hitting player Harrispitched a good game and made severalgood plays retiring the visiting teamat crucial moments The visitorsshowed up well in the field for it wasupon their good field work that thegame was won Ocala making ninehits during the game as against fourfor the visitors

The same teams will play again thisafternoon and it is said that Bennetthas a surprise in store In the way of-

a pitcher who has the speed and thebenders Come out and see the game

I youll never regret It The Orlandocrowd is composed of home boys gen-tlemanly

GANtE BONES JUNE FORECAST

The brimming mill pond full of boysThe springboard and the SlIde

The sly beefchewer the JobAnd the pants securely tied

The dripping and the telltale hairThe scurry home at noon

And then what Paddy gave thedrumXot yet but June

The wedding and the wedding guestsThe presents and the raiment

The father proffering the brideAnd the much embarrased claimant

The dinner and the shoes and rierThe dear old honeymoon

And Loves young dream until theywakeNot yet but June

The end of school the joyous shoutThe essay and oration

Some samples of bad grammar byThe Board of Education-

All standing singing Auld Lang-Syne

Or some such fitting tuneAnd two young men and thirty girls

Not yet but June

The picnic and the happy kidsThe dinner in the shade

The scream when little Johnny SmithFalls in the lemonade-

The soulmates strolling hand in handNot married yet but soon

And the little redbugs at the batNot yet but June

June was dedicated by the Romansto love and marriage and was there-fore named for Juno whose experiencewas thought to more nearly typifythat of the average married womanthan anything that had happened upto that time

Juno married Jupiter one of thebest and most exemplary of gods giv-ing

¬

him her simple trust and all therope compatible with a reasonable en ¬

joyment of liberty though marriedNevertheless they had not been mar-ried

¬

long enough even to feel surethat they were suited to each otherwhen the bride made the terrible dis-covery

¬

that the coowner of her wed ¬

ding presents and the man who wasI to flag the family breadwagon had anr affinityI Fortunately though It had proven toIbe with gods as It Is with men it wasnot with goddesses as It is with wo ¬

men Juno had a comeback coming-to her and she got busier than amother robin rustling worms ShS

I

turned her husbands affinity Into IIII heifer and set Argus to watch overher as a shepherd Argus had a hun-

dred¬

eyes and do what he could Jup-iter could not catch him asleep allaround and steal the heifer away from

I

him Asa last resort he sent Mer-cury

¬

to slay him After trying every-thing

¬

else Mercury told him thatI Bryan was elected and he fell deadJuno took the eyes of Argus and set

I them in the tall of a peacock wherewe may see them any fine morning inthe countryt6l remind us of that old¬

est of domestic tragedies Inseparable-from the history

c

of June f

The wedding march will fill the landAnd the quail will get to plpln

The Muse will rouse the village badAnd Pattens wheat will ripen

The old selfbinder will come outAnd sing a few sweet stanzas

And the college graduate will shoutAnd hit the trail for Kansas

Come out with us at harvest timewhen the sickle sings at mowingwhen the rose is blooming in the fieldand the breath of June Is blowingwhen the golden harvest ebbs andflows in undulating billows and thewater boy Is fast asleep down wherethe grass is green and deep beneath-the shady willows r

Theres nothing like itiinywheresupon the earth or oer tbt air la

I fresh and fragrant with the sweetbreath of the clover the birds aresinging operas and the poultry is asunning and the old familiar dinnerbell sets everybody running Theremay be men in Marathons that run amile a minute but Its a question if

I

St Yves or Longboat would be In Itif he were working in a field thoughmany times a winner and a bunch oftwenty harvest hands knocked off togo to dinner

Its simply wonderful the way-

A harvest hand gets goingYou look at him one instant and

You see him calmly mowing-You wouldnt think if forty bells

Should ring that he would hearthem

Or if ten banquets beckoned himThat he would venture near them

He looks as whipped out as a ragAnd dead to all attraction

But you want to hear the dinner bellI

To see his triple actionYou want to see him double up

As if he had the colicAnd tear the field up setting out

Upon that little frolic-It is as if the fumes of beans

Had reached him or the visionOf chicken had appeared to him

Or else that some ElysianMirage had shown him corn cakes pie

Fresh biscuits or food such asGods eat teased him keeping just

Outside his eager clutches

The meadowlark will chirp and singand the bumblebee will bumble the
