All the Way From England Gideon’s President to Preach at First & Calvary Most hotel rooms have a Bible in the nightstand drawer that was provided by the Gideons. It is estimated that one hotel room Bible will reach 2,300 people in its six-year life span. Not everyone reads a Bible in their hotel room, but the Gideons reported hotel research that showed 25% of travelers do read the Bible. The Gideons are also able to supply a New Testament free to eve- ryone that serves in the military. My brother, a Navy Chaplain, gives their Bibles to countless soldiers and their families. Also, Bibles go to prisons, hospitals, and schools. Charles Shaw, the local Gideon church ministry chairman, says about being a Gide- on: Our sole purpose is reaching the lost with God’s word in over 190 countries. We print in over 90 languages. Sometime within 2015 we will have distributed 2 billion Scriptures. 75% of our funding comes from Christians in America so that people world- wide will have God’s Word. We are honored to have Dr. William Thomas, the International President of the Gideons, as our guest preacher on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2015. Dr. Thomas comes from Sheffield, England to speak at the 110 th Gideons State Convention in Missouri, and we are so blessed that he will grace our pulpit in all three worship services. He is an acclaimed worldwide lectur- er, the Consulting Surgeon, Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield, and past Senior Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Please take a look at the church website for the list of the many honors he has received. He and his wife Grace have five children and six grandchildren. By bringing Dr. Thomas here, First and Calvary makes a huge statement about our commitment to helping get God’s Word out into the world. The worldwide evange- lism the Gideons faithfully pursue challenges our own evangelism efforts. We will be invigorated, refreshed, and reminded of our true purpose as the Body of Christ. I am so pleased that this year’s Palm Sunday will be inspirational and inevitably the be- ginning of an evangelism renewal for each of us. We must be better evangelists. The Gideons have saved countless lives and brought such light into the darkness. It’s time for us to join them and shine for the Kingdom of God, so don’t wait to be in- spired to share your faith, feel free to invite a friend to hear this special witness so that being an evangelist will be a tangible part of your Lenten journey this year. Members of the Session are in the process of researching an-swers to the questions sub-mitted after the two congrega-tional forums in February. This “ad hoc committee” is meeting weekly to compile the requested information. We will provide written documentation for the full Ses-sion's review and approval. The information will then be provided to the congregation. Session encourages church members to register for a log-in on the church website (www.firstandcalvary.org). Un-der the Resources tab, click on Registration Tutorial for help. The questions from the congregational forums and the information posted online by the Denomination Committee can only be accessed by members after they have logged into the site. Copies of online documents are also available in the church office.

Mission Matters! The FEINSTEIN FOUNDATION has decided not to have the $1M Challenge at this time. Due to this, we would like to focus on supporting C0rosslines especially during March. Find out about Crosslines and how you can help at the special Crosslines table in the atrium. Binnie Clements Guild Fundraisers: On Sunday, March 22 the Guild is going to have at least 50 pans of cinnamon rolls for sale. Knowing how

fast the rolls sell out, they are also going to take some additional pre-orders. Contact Dalene Doman at (417)823-9880 or [email protected] to reserve your rolls today.

The Guild has also begun to take their spring orders for geraniums. Look for their table in the South Atrium to order your geraniums.

Join us in the north atrium on Sunday afternoon, March 29 at 2:30p.m., as we enjoy the Drury Singers from Drury University in concert! The singers are di-rected by Dr. Allin Sorenson and are preparing for a Scandinavian Tour in late May. This talented ensemble will present a wonderful variety of music that will delight their audience. This concert is free and everyone is welcome.

Children of all ages are invited to participate in a Palm

Sunday Parade at any of the 3 worship services on Palm

Sunday. Children will have the opportunity to open

worship by waving palm branches during the first hymn

or praise song of the service. What a great way to cap-

ture the excitement of Jesus entering Jerusalem! If your

child(ren) would like to participate, please meet in the

choir room at 8:15 or 10:45 to parade in the traditional

service or at 10:45 in the hallway outside the MPR to

parade in the contemporary service.

Feeding the hungry, helping people build up their own livelihoods, responding to disasters—these are the

ways that your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing are changing lives, changing communities, and chang-

ing the world. When we give this year, we give in faith—knowing that during One Great Hour of Sharing

we will be responding in Christ’s name to the cries of our sisters and brothers through the next year.

Children who are participating in “fish bank” collection should plan to return theirs to

their Sunday School teachers on Palm Sunday, March 29.

Dear First & Calvary Congregation,

Many of you know that I taught College for 17 years be-fore moving back to Springfield to be closer to my par-ents. My last teaching position was at New Orleans Bap-tist Theological Seminary, and while teaching there, I began working part time on a Master’s Degree in Theol-ogy and World Religions. Over Christmas break, God blessed me with a full time faculty position in the Hu-manities Department at Ozarks Technical College. Alt-hough I thought I could continue to work at First & Cal-vary part time, I have found over the past eight weeks that it is too much.

I have been blessed to work at First & Calvary for the past year and ten months and to get to know the great people that make up the body of believers. Thank you for the opportunity to make my ministry a part of your ministry and your ministry a part of mine. You will still see me in church and at events, but as of last Friday, I will no longer be working in the office or typing the Review and Bulletins. I pray God’s continued blessings on you!

In Christ, Kristine Harris

In preparation for the Maundy Thursday Passover Seder Meal, Dr. Chaney will be teaching a lesson entitled “All About Passover and the Seder.” It will be a time to ask questions about the Passover and the Seder as we prepare for this unique Holy Week experience. Reminder: this will be the final night of The Table this semester.
