    Quiz for Business Strategy 2

    Name: Deepak Bhatia

    Roll #: DXB (EWD10014 )

    1. Identify and discuss at least two events in the story which you think are most

    relevant for the businesses today.

Communication is one of the key events in this story which is relevant for the

businesses today. Here communication is done from top to bottom in a

procedural way. Here Fred indentifies that iceberg is melting and if he goes toany person on his own, he knows no one will listen to him; rather he goes to the

    colony leader.

Creating sense of urgency is also one of the key events in this story as this step

highlights the performance gaps, this also means that the leaders are open for

suggestions by other penguins and the person in-charge has an open attitude andlistens to those suggestions.

    2. Kotter says Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes and has to exist at every

level. Do you agree? Discuss the aspect of leadership in relation to Corporate

    Strategy.

Leaders need room or air and need to maintain relationships to allow them to have talkswhich will give them importance more than the formal meetings. Having a casual chats

with employees is rather more fruitful and effective rather than having board meetings.Actual leaders are usually the once who interact and who are concerned for theemployees in the organization. Leaders depend on personal chats, build relationships

and make pockets of trust. All this helps in generating whether your corporate strategy

is aligned to success or not. But sometimes in keep in good relations with employeeswe can also align the employees to corporate strategy.

    3. Comment on leadership styles of two characters in the story from the point of view

    of strategy.

My first character will be Sally, who is the most important person in the case as

she was the person who organized and event in the problem of melting ice. The

event called tribute to our heroes. Sally thought of the problems which will befaced by her so she started with the practice at her home by convincing her

parents to catch the fish. She looked for partners to build on strengths; she

created unity in the penguin family.

My second character is Alice, whose doors were always open for listening to

suggestions which I feel that is the biggest character of a leader. Alice is personwho puts her hands on the shoulder of the person and walk (like DhiruBhai).

She is the person who focuses on unity of people and look for commitment. She

is also a person who thinks foe long term.

    4. What are the major lessons (at least three) that you have learnt from the case

study? Discuss at length the most important lesson that you have learnt from

amongst those you have identified and how will you use the lesson in conduct of

    your business?

The there major lessons I learnt from the case are:

    1. Understand how change can affect an organization and how to

induce in the system for optimum results.

    2. How to use the John Kotters eight steps transformation process.3. To keep open doors for all employees for suggestions and

walking with them hand in hand.

The most important lesson I learnt is that you should have an open door policy, which

will help you to know what your employees are doing, how they are working in theorganization. When you keep an open door policy where you will be open for

suggestions from employees, who will gain a lot on how to conduct your business and

how to keep your employees work for you longer. You should be walking with your

employees with arms around shoulders which will enable the employee for positiveresults at work area. To this kind of approach will enable you to know what your

employees think of the organization. After all employees are the most important assetsin the organization, who understand the work area they work in.

This enables you to create a team leader which will sometimes interact with employees

in your absence. But you have to look for a team leader who has the same qualities youhave. If the employees are happy in the organization, they will give you results and

your business will flourish and the business will be conducted in a smooth manner.
