Machine Applique
There are several machine appliqué techniques. For more complex shapes, Mary prefers this tech-
nique using wash away stabilizer and glue! We will focus on tracing or marking your chosen
shape, cutting the stabilizer, securing the edge of your fabrics around curves of your shape and
stitching it down with a blanket stitch, small zigzag or satin stitch of your
choice. You will be amazed at the results!

you cutting straight strips quickly and efficiently. With a solution to

Creative Quilting with Your Walking Foot - Make your tops into Quilts Learn how to prepare a quilt sandwich & quilt with a walking
foot. You will learn how to start and stop your quilting lines,
stitch straight lines and gentle curves. Plan quilting designs using
these basics shapes. Using these skills your next quilt will be free
of tucks and puckers. You can say you did it yourself! Kit pro-
vided. This is a pre-requisite for Free Motion Made Fun. As an
added bonus, bring a quilt top for suggestions on quilting designs.

Loops can be single, double, figure 8, big, small, far apart or really
close together as in pebbling.
Landscape can be vertical, horizontal, straight or curved or angled
and spiky.
Leaves present a wide range of possibilities!

Binding Basics What is the difference between straight grain or bias binding, double fold
French binding and single fold binding? When do you use them? How do
you make them using the same quality fabrics as your quilt? How do you
make precise mitered corners every time? Learn and practice on the kit pro-

and how to finish your quilt beautifully!

My First Sewing Class This class is designed to introduce the sewing machine to beginning youth (8-15). Operation of a
sewing machine includes threading, bobbin winding and installation, identification of proper set-
tings, completing straight stitching and troubleshooting. Students bring their own machine or bor-
row one of ours. This class is a pre-requisite to Youth Studio, unless
you have been to a youth studio in the last quarter or summer camp.

REFUND POLICY
We must make our commitment to our teachers one week before the start of their class. There-
fore, refunds and transfers are available when your cancellation is made ONE WEEK BEFORE
THE CLASS, less a $5.00 handling fee. After that, no refunds, transfers or credits can be given.
If Harper’s must cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, individuals registered for that class
will be contacted and given the choice of a full refund or the substitution of another class.

Driver’s Ed for Sewing Machines This class is a must when you don’t know how to start your sewing machine. Maybe you inherited
a sewing machine or dug one out of the closet. Bring your machine (newly serviced, if needed, we
give free estimates), accessories including power cord, foot pedal, and owner‘s manual (we can
order most books). We will demystify how to thread, operate, get you up and running so you can
start or return to sewing. Let us help you!

CLASS REGISTRATION We appreciate your purchasing a class from Harper’s. It is our goal for you to have a fun
learning experience in our classes. You will receive a supply list at the time of registration
if available or it will be mailed to you. Supplies are not included in the registration fee
unless so stated. We suggest you wait until closer to the time of your class to purchase
your fabrics, in case of class cancellation. We check class registration approximately 1
week to 10 days prior to the class to determine if class minimum has been reached. You
will be notified if a class for which you have registered is cancelled.
Sewphisticates Have you looked at some of the wonderful new patterns, but doubted your ability to make them on
your own? This is the course to take if you have a few skills and would like to fine-tune them.
Take this course as many times as you wish. Focus on new skills each time by selecting a different

Project Linus - www.projectlinus.org Your volunteer contribution is needed to provide security blankets for traumatized and/or critically
ill children through Project Linus! Various kits and patterns are available, including Lily’s Hug™, a
weighted blanket for autistic children. Bring your basic sewing tools – scissors, pins, thread, etc.
You may bring your own donation of fabric or we will have previously donated fabric available.
Completed quilts are welcome for show and tell. Harper’s is a drop-off location for your donations
of completed quilts. Want more info, email us! The good work of this group results in 5-45 quilts
being donated for children every month! Please pre-register, limit 10.
