Wiring

RS-485 PC Communication

Use CAT-5 UTP (or better) cable (shielded recommended). Cable should be run in a daisy-chained connection from the unit to the PC’s DB9 COM port via an RS-485 to RS-232 converter. Ethernet

Ethernet connections to the device are made through Ethernet wires available on the back of the device (RJ-45 Connector not included). Refer to page 8 for RJ-45 connector config. options. PowerFor most installations, use 18-22 AWG cable. Remember to calculate line-loss when selecting cable.

Not applicable to 4G SecureControlWiegand Output to Access Control Panel (ACP)• For 18 AWG, the maximum cable distance is 500 ft.

(150m); for 20 AWG, the maximum is 300 ft. (90m); for 22 AWG, the maximum is 200 ft. (60m).

• Three-conductor wire (shielded recommended) is required for Data 0, Data 1, and WGND.*

USBStandard cable with Micro AB plug to A plug (USB on the Go) is used.Install Ferrite CoreIn order for the 4G Lite devices to comply with FCC Class B & CISPR 22 Class B regulations, the installer and/or end user is required to use the supplied Ferrite Material with 3 turns onthe Ethernet cables exiting the rear of all 4G V-Flex Lite and 4G CR-Pass models. In addition, compliance with the above regulations requires the installer and/or end user to use the supplied Ferrite Material with 3 turns on the I/O lines for the 14-pin terminal block cables of the SecureControl device with WLAN option only.

Ethernet Ferrite P/N: STEWARD 28A2432-0A2I/O Lines P/N: STEWARD 28A2432-0A2Install the ferrite cores as close to the device as possible.

IMPORTANT: Refer to local electrical codes and standards before selecting a cable type.* L-1 EAS always recommends the use of wiegand ground

Power Supply

Use an external power supply that provides a minimum of 0.5A at 12VDC PER DEVICE. The power supply should be regulated, filtered, and dedicated to L-1 EAS products only. If sharing power between devices, be sure that each unit receives 0.5A (e.g. two units would require a 12VDC, 1A supply).

A battery backup or uninterrupted power supply (UPS) with built-in surge protection is recommended.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) - (for 4G CR-Pass only)

When the device is powered over Ethernet, an IEEE 802.3af compliant Active Midspan Injector must be used. This injector is not supplied with L-1 EAS products.

RS-485

For RS-485 installations, the cable should be run in a daisy-chain configuration (i.e. converter > position 1 > position 2 > position 3, etc.).

Choose one twisted pair of conductors to use for RS-485A (Blue wire - Pin 17 of 26) and RS-485B (Blue/Black wire - Pin 19 of 26). Conductor should be used for RS-485_GND (Black/Red) Pin 20 of 26.

IMPORTANT: A maximum of 31 devices may be installed on the same line. The maximum total cable length is 4000 ft. (1200m). The cable must be dedicated to this installation and not used for any other purpose (use L-1 EAS products only).

NOTE: When installing a unit on a network with both legacy and new products, the new software will not detect the older product(s). In these mixed installations, both VeriAdmin™ and SecureAdmin Lite™ must be used.

Enrollment Basics

New users are entered into the database through the process of “enrollment”. During this process, a user’s finger is scanned and a finger-scan template is generated. The Quick Enrollment button is used for a single fingerprint. This method is particularly useful when you need to quickly add a single user. The Advanced Enrollment button is used to select the best of three fingerprints.

To enroll a user, click on the Quick Enrollment button and follow the directions displayedintheEnrollmentWizard.

NOTE: For more information, refer to Enrolling Users section of the 4G Lite Operator’s Manual.
