Registration Overview Letter Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students: It is time to start preparing for the 2016-17 school year. The registration process at LCHS is designed to aid students in developing a class schedule consistent with their abilities, interests, and post high school plans. The registration process will begin the week of February 1st and continue throughout the second semester, culminating with a confirmed schedule of classes for 2016-17 that will be distributed to each student prior to the end of this academic year. Students are asked to select a schedule of classes for the 2016-17 school year that takes into consideration their many commitments at school and beyond and is academically challenging. Parents and guardians play a key role in this process by providing support and guidance, ensuring that their child selects courses in which s/he can be successful. Students will hear presentations from school counselors about high school graduation requirements, course selection, department scope and sequence, and college admission requirements. In addition, counselors will provide each student with a copy of his/her high school transcript, a Registration Quick Guide (link listed online), and this year’s Course Selection Worksheet. This completed and signed worksheet is due to the counseling department following the in-class presentation. Please refer to the registration presentation schedule below. To assist students in selecting courses, students must review the online Registration Handbook and Registration Quick Guide for information related to UC and CSU a-g requirements, and NCAA requirements, as applicable. Notes taken during the counselor presentation are also a valuable resource. As students review these materials, they are encouraged to seek guidance from teachers and their counselor. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor. Sincerely, Jim Cartnal Associate Principal, Curriculum and Instruction Registration Presentation Schedule: Deadlines to turn in Course Selection Contract: Current 11th Grade: Feb. 1st Due: February 8, 2016 Current 10th Grade: Feb. 5th Due: February 17, 2016 Current 9th Grade: Feb. 17th Due: February 24, 2016 Current 8th Grade: Feb. 22nd Due: February 29, 2016

*UC/CSU ALWAYS recommends more than the minimum requirements. **It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and student to verify requirements for individual schools. #Check each university website application requirements (will vary). Math, Science, and World Languages are sequential courses and placement in subsequent levels is dependent upon student success and completion of the previous level. See course descriptions for details. Selecting classes for the upcoming year is a highly personalized and important choice. Each student MUST evaluate the unique set of demands upon time and energy necessary to achieve success in academic and extra-curricular commitments. Please choose classes that allow you to achieve your short and long term goals, as you define them in concert with your parent(s) or guardian(s), teachers and your counselor. If you seek admission to the most selective universities or colleges, the Counseling Department suggests that you consider taking honors and Advanced Placement classes in the subjects in which you believe you can achieve success. This recommendation is not intended to encourage you to take ALL honors or AP classes, but rather to carefully select classes that best serve your goals.
