The Feast of the Black Nazarene is celebrated during Jan. 9 because is starts with a 9 day novena on Jan. 1
Every year, the number of people celebrating the feast is around 6 million bear footed people.
On the day of the celebration mass is celebrated in the early part of the morning.

According to Bonilla, worship comes from their “Loob” and “Kalooban” or heart and will which are their domains where they build an inner life.
Quiapo experience shows how people make sense to a mute structure (Church) and a mute icon (Nazarene).
According to the church the Black Nazarene is a mere representation of Christ on earth.

Processions and novenas is no that important than the mass.
Some practice, like walking on the knees should not be done while mass is celebrated.
Belief structure- system of signs is always at work, be these words, actions, objects or their combination that are used by the devotees.
