Is the trip for me?YES! People of all ages and from all walks of life take part in these fantastic challenges and what everyone has in common is the desire to do something amazing for a great cause! Some people come with friends or family but most people won’t know anyone else on the trip so it’s a great opportunity to make new friends! Everyone is welcome!

How fit do I need to be?Most people will be just like you however if you want to get the very best out of the trip it’s imperative that you train. Once you have reserved your place on the trip we will give you training hints and tips.

Will I be able to raise the sponsorship money?YES! So long as you start in good time you’ll find that you can easily raise more than the minimum. To get you started we have listed some ideas in this brochure, and don’t forget you can call us at any time for help and advice!

Can I stay on in China for longer?YES! For a nominal administration fee your flight can be extended (subject to availability). This will give you the opportunity to discover more of this amazing country independently.

Will you help me?YES! We have a dedicated event manager who will be on hand to look after you every step of the way. The confirmation pack you will be sent upon booking will include everything you need to know and we are always just a phone call away if you need any help, advice or you just want a good chin-wag!

What’s the food like?We’ll enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine. Vegetarian diets can be catered for.

What do I need to bring?NO specialist kit required! We’ll send you a full packing list when you register.

Will you carry my luggage whilst I’m walking?YES! Your luggage will be carried separately in one of the support vehicles. You’ll just need to carry those essentials like water, sun tan lotion and a camera! 

When should I book my place on the trip?TODAY! Places are limited and they go really quickly so book soon to avoid disappointment.

Registration Fee: All our fundraising trips require a registration fee to be paid on booking – please see the enclosed Reservation Form for details. (1)

Minimum sponsorship: We ask you to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship to take part in this trip – please see the enclosed Reservation Form for details. (2)

No. of days: 10 days (9 nights)

Accommodation: 2-3* hotels where possible

Temperature: Usually 21-27°C at this time of year however the temperature will get a lot cooler at night.

What’s included: Flights and all internal travel, accommodation, all food (except 3 meals), water, refreshments, guides, a doctor and medical support.(4)

Notes:1. The registration fee is non-refundable.

2. The first 80% of the sponsorship level is due 12 weeks before the event.

3. All fundraising incurs costs. The tour costs are approximately 50% of the

minimum sponsorship level. Costs are confirmed 8 weeks before departure.

4. All participants are responsible for their own passports, visas, vaccinations

and travel insurance which you must have. Once you have booked your place

our experienced staff will help you make these arrangements.

THINK BIG!The average sponsorship level for the China Trek is around £3,200 so below we have indicated some tried and tested ideas to get you started.

Start by asking everyone you know – the more people you ask, the more you will raise! Try to get payment upfront to halve the effort, and ALWAYS start each sponsorship form with a generous sponsor as this will set a high standard for the rest. (It really does work!)

Ask your employer to sponsor you, too – many companies actually match pound for pound!

Here are some ideas:Arrange a £10 menu at a local restaurant on one  £200 of their quiet nights and charge 10 friends £20! (Do this twice as it’s so easy)

Hold a karaoke in your local pub for a percentage  £300 of the drinks sales

Two car boot sales (get your family and friends to   £250 have a clear out!)

Ask your local school to hold a non-uniform day  £220

Place collection boxes in 5 outlets  £80

Static trek in a shopping centre for a couple of hours  £200 

Hold a quiz night with raffle  £300

Dinner party or barbecue for 20 friends who   £200 each pay £10

Hold a skills auction where you rope in friends   £300 with certain skills (hairdressing / reflexology etc)  to donate their skills for free

Two Friday night Three-legged Pub Crawls  £300

Ask 10 close friends to write to everyone they know   £300

Collect at a local football ground/supermarket   £150 (get permission!)

Ask 5 business clients or suppliers for £30  £150

Ask friends and family for sponsorship money   £250 instead of Birthday/Christmas presents

The itinerary

Day 1 Depart London for Beijing.

Day 2BeijingAfter a chance to settle in and refresh we will have a welcome meeting and a chance for you to ask any questions about the up and coming trek. Then it’s out for a welcome traditional Peking Duck dinner at one of Beijing’s famous restaurants.

Day 3Beijing to Huangyaguan We make the morning journey out of Beijing and catch our first glimpse of the Great Wall ahead of us. After checking into our hotel and some lunch, we set off to the first section of the trek, giving us a good indication on the challenge ahead. Originally built in 557 AD, the Huangyanguan section of the wall was repaired for the first time in Ming Dynasty with bricks and for the second time in 1985. This section is noted for being particularly stunning because of its water towers which have all been restored to their former majestic glory.  Trekking time approx 3–4 hours

Day 4 Huangyaguan – Mountain Village Our hike today leads us out of the hotel as we head up on a restored section. By mid morning we reach the start of “Heavens Ladder”, a steep climb of over 200 steps. This is a tough section but we are rewarded with stunning views over the Yanshan Mountains and the region below. After congratulating each other on our achievement we head up again to join the top of the ridge where our path winds around sections of the old wall. In the afternoon we are led down the valley and into a mountain village. Tonight we stay in local family houses, a wonderful opportunity to see what life is like for the people who inhabit this remote area of China, an unforgettable experience. Trekking time approx 5–7 hours

Day 5 Mountain Village – JinshanlingAfter breakfast, we say goodbye to our hosts and start out to take the steep trail across the farmer’s fields up to the wall where Heibei province, Tianjin City and Beijing meet together known as the “Three Bordering Tablet”. We then descend and make our way west along the wall until we reach the village of Longmen. We’ll take our lunch here before driving to Jinshanling in late afternoon. Trekking time approx 4–5 hours

Day 6 Guebikou to JinshanlingWe transfer to the start of the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall. If the weather is good we can see Miyun reservoir and the Wangjing Tower rising in the distance. Jinshanling is one of the best preserved areas of the Great Wall, it was originally made of huge bricks, each of which weighed about 12 kilograms (26 pounds). The section we follow today also had all of its five main passes and 67 watch towers restored making it a truly spectacular hike offering some fantastic photo opportunities. Trekking time approx 5–7 hours

Day 7 Jinshanling to Mutianyu After breakfast we trek east heading towards Simatai along a much restored section of the wall. Our trek today can been seen for miles as the Wall runs up and down the spine of the mountain. We will take shelter in one of the many watchtowers on the way – you can bet that Ghengis Khan never had it so good when he broke through the Great wall with his Mongol hordes! We will end the walk by walking down towards our awaiting transport which will drive us home for the night to Mutianyu. Trekking time approx 3–5 hours

Day 8 Mutianyu to Beijing Today will be our final morning on the Great Wall! After leaving the hotel and passing a small village we start climbing a steep, wooded track to the top of the Wall for our final breath taking views over the far off mountains. The section we join is known to be one of most beautiful parts of the wild Wall in Beijing, loved by many photographers. After our final hike we come back down to the road to meet our bus and drive back to the hustle and bustle of Beijing. After a chance to freshen up, we’ll regroup and head out to our celebration meal held in downtown Beijing a time to reflect on our achievement. Trekking time approx 3–4 hours

Day 9 BeijingToday we take time to explore the capital, jammed packed with its 17 million residences, steeped in history and culture.

Day10 Beijing to London Transfer to the airport to fly home.
