In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My magazine follows usual conventions of real magazines in terms of the layout. One example is emphasis on the lower left third that exists in real magazines. The masthead and coverline's are also colour co-ordinated and there is a high level of consistency in terms of layout throughout my magazine.

However one new innovation of my magazine is the fact that it has dual genres of being both a music and dance magazine. Most popular magazines these days are only one type, such as motoring, music, technology.

I feel the photography is of a relatively high standard and gives the magazine a premium feel.

With the ‘CONTENTS’ title here, I took inspiration from VIBE magazine in terms of having the word on 3 different lines.

I felt a gradient would be appropriate on the article listings as it draws attention to them whilst making it integrate nicely with the black/white colours scheme.

I feel that the font used here is classy and gives a professional feel to the magazine.

How does your media product represent particular social group?

My music magazine represents the modern youth and their vested interest in the music (Hip-Hop & R&B) industries and also the dance scene.

Taking this into consideration I had to make the product fresh and modern as this appeals to the target audience.

I feel it represents the youth social group in a positive manner by highlighting their successes in the various articles. This gives readers role models to look up to and aspire to.

Due to the nature of how many hip hop stars became famous and that fact that the magazine highlights this, it instils the view that anyone can do the same and it is possible. This allows the reader to be inspired, a positive thing.
