We gave out 50 questionnaires with 25 males and 25 females so that it was representative as our opening film sequence is aimed at both genders between the ages of 16-25.

The result of our questionnaire regarding music showed us that orchestral was the most popular. This is one of the generic conventions of a horror film so we were not surprised by these results. However, natural sounds are also popular within the horror genre so we are considering using natural sounds in our opening sequence.

After looking through our results within facial expressions, we found that number 1 from the famous scene of ‘psycho’ was the most popular. This has helped as he looks intimidating and frightening by looking directly at the camera which looks like his actions at the audience making them feel involved. So we will take this in to consideration when filming our opening sequence.

The majority of the our respondents said that they favoured dark lighting in horror films as it adds tension and creates suspense in the atmosphere. So as a result, we are going to film in low key lighting or if possible black and white.

The most popular image was number 4 which was an extreme close; many of people said this was because they could see a lot of detail. They could engage more as they were able to identify the characters emotions clearly. We are likely to use extreme close ups throughout the sequence to get this reaction with our audience.
