The food security bill was passed on

August 26,2013 by Lok sabha and by Rajya sabha on 2nd September, 2013 and finally become an act on september 12,2013 after the ascent of our president.

HIGHLIGHTS OF FOOD SECURITY ACT

The Act guarantee 5 kg of rice, wheat and coarse cereals per month

per person at Rs 3, 2, 1 respectively to 75 per cent of the rural and 50 percent of the urban population.

About 67% of the population, or 800 million people will be eligible for the entitlementant this act will cost Rs.1.3 trillion(1,30,000 crore) a year.This food security programme is biggest programme in the world to fight hunger and it would require 62 million tonnes of foodgrains.

Pregnant women and lactating mothers would receive Rs 6,000 per year.Children aged 6 months to 14 years would get take home ration or hot cooked food.

bill which will provide skilled training to poor people?

2.If the government will feed pregnant women,

the children till 14 years; than do you think their husband ,their parents will be motivated for working . Didn’t this will demoralize them to work?

CONCLUSIONThis not a time for such a huge cost bill. Today Indian economy is in worse condition-

rising inflation, depreciating rupee, decreasing economic growth, fluctuating equity market, eroding CAD, etc. Before starting such huge project the governance need to improve.Instead of providing the food at subsidised rate the government can go for providing skilled training to poor people.
