Transcript of Question three
What kind of media institutes might distribute your
film and why?
Hammersmith productions were first founded In November 1934 by the comedian and
businessman William Hinds. The company is best known for a series of Gothic "Hammer
Horror" films made at the end of the 1950s until the 1970s.However the company
specializes in a range of different genres, science fiction, Film Noir and comedies but are
mostly known for their horror thriller films. The company is known for producing some
of the best known Horror successes in Britain for example:
Dracula was an enormous success, breaking box-office records in the UK and also in the
United States which released it as Horror of Dracula and Canada, and across the world.
Mummy, the title used for the remake of The Mummy's Hand, which also incorporated
significant story elements from that film's sequel, The Mummy's Tom was made in
1959.
The Phantom of the Opera followed in 1962, and Hammer collaborated with William
Castle on a remake of The Old Dark House (1963), but The Invisible Man was never
produced.
Hammer dominated the horror film market and, enjoying worldwide distribution and
considerable financial success. To this day hammer have successfully produced and
distributed 209 films.
Running alongside production of the Gothic horror films, Hammer also made a series of
what were known as "mini-Hitchcocks".
The thriller films produced were all low budget suspense films which relate to the
whole purpose of my media project this was initially one of the main reasons why
hammer film productions were one of my major preferences. These very low-budget
suspense thrillers, often in black-and-white, were made in the mould of Les Diaboliques,
although more often compared to the later Psycho This series of mystery thrillers,
which all had twist endings started with Taste of Fear(1961) and continued on with
Fear in the Night (1972.
According to my In depth interviews when asked the question where do you find out
about new thriller films, my target audience answered mostly through advertisement.
Advertisement such as:
Bill boards
Bus, Train & bus stop bill boards
The Harrow vue website
Newspapers/magazines
YouTube trailers

Blogs / reviews

With most of my target audience being young students they are always using the latest
technology, on things such as the internet for entertainment and information. Websites
such as YouTube have blown up that people rely on them so much for information such
as new movies out especially my target audience who are technology dominated.
