LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE

LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO

THE FULL PRODUCT?

• In the preliminary task I had a brief idea about magazines and their conventions from reading them although; I hadn’t done any in depth research.

• In my opinion I have improved massively since the start of the preliminary task to my music magazine. My school front cover was very basic and minimalistic considering I had never created anything like this before and had very little knowledge about how to create it. It was very plain and empty and wouldn’t sell well. It only conforms to some of the conventions meaning it doesn’t catch attention to eye of the reader, whereas I think my music magazine does. If I could redo this task I would change the image, making it the full page and making the sell lines much more interesting. However I did a lot more in depth research for my music magazine, such as all the conventions, the genre of music and some of the artist, which meant my music magazine, was more successful than the school magazine, I was more familiar with the different programs such as InDesign and Photoshop and could create a more professional looking magazine as I had developed my skills and had a wider knowledge.

• Terms I have learnt over this period of time I applied to my magazine, such as the conventions e.g. Masthead and sell lines and applying the Z theory.

CONTENTS PAGE• The music contents page and Preliminary task completely

differ. The difference between the two is so clear! My contents page for my school contents page is not very interesting and doesn’t appeal to the eye of the reader, although I was able to add a number of images meaning I followed the conventions. On the other hand my music contents page follows all the conventions of a contents page. In my opinion I think my contents page was really successful as it doesn’t lack being interesting nor individuality, I was able to make it look realistic by using the skills I had developed. I think my layout has improved from my preliminary task as everything is clearly set out making it easier for audience to read also my typography is better as it is much clearer and more interesting.

• Overall I think I have dramatically changed by comparing my front covers and contents pages. In my opinion I focused more on the music magazine as I was more interested in the task and the making of it, I enjoy listening to music so I thought this would be great to express my feelings towards the music I like to listen to which meant I had a greater control of what I wanted people to see in the magazine. It was extremely hard and time consuming, there were many deadlines I had to reach which meant in my free periods and free time at home I would be on a computer either completing research or creating a part of the magazine. A lot of effort went into making the magazine as I wanted mine to look professional and realistic.
