Question 7 – Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Introduction. After doing our preliminary task, we have researched many different films to advance my knowledge in what a film should be like in order to be successful. We have picked up on different aspects of those films to help us to attract our target audience and make the film more interesting and better to watch for the viewers. Our preliminary task was the first exercise we did leading up to our coursework. It gave us a chance to become familiar with different camera shots, lighting, location etc. Our final film is much more advanced than our preliminary task due to the much research and planning we did towards it. First Scene. The first scene of our preliminary task starts with the character walking towards a door, with no meaning as of that moment, whereas most films begin with an establishing shot or a aerial shot. With our actual film, we started it off with an establishing shot of the city where the film is set, to make it look more professional and have a better beginning.

Camera Shots. We used a variety of camera shots in both of our films, due to having advanced certain camera shot skills during our preliminary task, therefore we used some of them in our opening too. Shot reverse shot was one of the camera shots used in our preliminary task and

our opening, as it gives an effect of multiple cameras being used and compliments the scene of two people having a conversation.

Shot Framing. It is clear to see that the framing displayed in our preliminary task is poor and of a low standard, due to us not being skilled framing and also not having a lot of knowledge on it. However, during the planning and production of our opening, we familiarised ourselves with the concept of framing and we ensured that our opening showed good framing skills to make it look more advanced and professional.

Location. Our location where the preliminary task was filmed was irrelevant to the story line as it was filmed in a drama studio even though it was a police interview, which made the scene look unrealistic and out of place. Our opening, however, is set in a school and a house which is relevant and suitable for our storyline of our two characters, and looks professional and realistic when we watch it back.
