One of main differences in features in my preliminary task and my final magazine design was the cover lines. In my first task I only included one cover line which would not be standard of any magazine, however in my coursework piece I was able to create a selection of cover lines to put over the Cover image to make it look fuller. In my prelim task my use of Photoshop is evident with the opacity feature on the front cover although I was confident in using Photoshop before the main task I feel that the prelim task helped me to identify the uses of Photoshop which I would be able to incorporate into a magazine. I feel this is best shown by the adjustments to the front cover image in terms of the vibrancy and blur filters on sections.

The main difference between the planning stage of both magazines was the fact that the prelim magazine was the first time I had created a magazine plan. This meant that I was unable to gain the experience of planning before creating my final design. However In my main task I had learned the planning process and created it in the Preliminary task so I had some experience to hand when creating my second task .

The photography was also a main difference in the creation of my prelim and main task. This is because I had shorter time range in which to take the pictures for the prelim task and had to use pictures taken in school. This was different when it came to the photography stage of the main task I was able to go out and take pictures making my work much more effective and original.

For both tasks I had to create a contact sheet which was available to organise the images taken and chose a best one. Again the main task proved more effective as I had a wider range of images to chose from so made the decision process a lot easier then the prelim task which only featured a number of images.

With my prelim task I didn’t fully understand or use the conventions of music pages. Meaning that I didn’t include cover lines and stand firsts. However in the main task I did a task involving the conventions of music magazines so I was able to use this to create the magazine.

I improved in my planning for the main task I included more preparation. I was able to produce a style sheet which helped me create a house theme for my magazine. I also used questionnaires to help judge my audience preferences to make my magazine more relevant
