  • 1. Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

2. Front Cover ProgressionPreliminary Front Cover Music Magazine Front Cover 3. Contents Page ProgressionPreliminary Contents Page Music Magazine Contents Page 4. Adobe PhotoshopLooking back on my college magazine compared to my music magazinenow, I believe that I have progressed a lot. Having not used AdobePhotoshop before the making of the college magazine, I was veryreluctant to try new things and experiment with different techniques. However since completing my music magazine I feel more confidentwith using the program.I have learnt to upload an image and adjust the settings of the image toimprove on the original images lighting and contrast levels. I have alsoprogressed since making my college magazine front cover with my skillon adding drop shadow and stroke to the text to make it stand out moreon the page.I have learnt how to adapt a colour from an image with the progressionof the front cover as well as building up my confidence on AdobePhotoshop. 5. InDesignSince the preliminary task compared to my skills on InDesign now Ibelieve that I have progressed too. Having not used InDesign beforetaking AS Media Studies I was a little weary of what it was and how touse it. However since the preliminary task I believe that I haveincreased my confidence and my skills that I have used haveprogressed.InDesign has helped me to make my magazine look professionalwithin easy steps. Using InDesign shows industry conventionsbecause real media industries use this program to produce magazinesas well as Quark Express. 6. Still CameraI believe that I have learnt a lot moreabout taking photographs and theway different shots establish a moodand portray feelings since theprogression from the preliminarytask. I have learnt the names ofdifferent shot types for example, longshot, close ups, medium shots etc. Ihave learnt that using a variety ofshot types make the magazine seemmore interesting and attract theaudience more. 7. Industry PracticeI know understand about industrypractice. I am now able to look ata target audience and focus oncreating what they would like tosee.I have learnt that everything eitherway has to fit together otherwise itwill be out of place and not fit thegenre and product. There has tobe a genuine continuity betweenall the pages as they will not workotherwise. 8. Codes and ConventionsThroughout the progression from preliminary task to the final musicmagazine I have learned the codes and conventions of magazines.I have learnt how to take photographs through the code and conventionsand the different shot types that are used in the industry. Thisprogression means that I can now take a photograph while taking intoaccount the mise-en-scene, lighting and shot type that is being used.In my preliminary task, the front cover background is busy and colourfuland the image is not of the best quality. On the contrary, the front coveron my media product is much more professional looking and does followthe codes and conventions of a front cover much better than mypreliminary task did. The masthead looks more professional too on myfront cover than on my preliminary task front cover, it looks quite amateurtherefore I feel that my knowledge and understanding of media productsand the codes and conventions of a music magazine have progressedgreatly.
