The technical aspect
With both of the front covers I made for my preliminary project, I used different programmers, the coursework cover - Adobe Photoshop, and preliminary cover – Quark express. Although Quark express is a good programme to use for print work, I still find Photoshop much easier to work with, as I get a much more professional outcome, and the aesthetics of the project are generally better. I think that this was a big learning curve for me, as I learnt that using the programme you work with best, gains a better finish and final outcome.
PhotographyFor both my preliminary magazine project, and my print coursework, I used the same model, Narita Banks. When talking about the preliminary photo for the front cover, I think it worked really well for the type of magazine ‘Student magazine’, and I was definitely pleased with the outcome, however, for my real print coursework, I need more professional, and for my genre of music, a lot more sophisticated. To gain this, I used the photography studio, and my composition techniques, to get the right pose, clothing, and props for the shot. I feel that by learning to be more professional, the final image became much better, comparing to the preliminary one.
The StyleLooking at both the styles of the magazines, its easy to see how different they are, however, I had to carry on the same style and layout technique throughout my coursework magazine, as I had a contents page and double page spread to also do, which wasn’t the case with my preliminary task, as I only had to do a cover and contents. But comparing both their styles, its noticeable that I have improved in style both editing wise, and layout wise. Example. Using a programme which will allow a better outcome.
