Question 5 *2

3
How did you attract/ address your audience? To address our audience as a group we discussed what we could add to or change or put into our script to increase our films appeal to the thriller demographic. Through the use of pre questionnaires we found out things like, what gender people would like the main character of a thriller film to be, over 50% of people asked said that they would prefer a male protagonist. We also asked if people thought that the name “The Challenge” was a suitable name for a thriller film. Over 90% agreed that the name we had chosen was a suitable title. As a group we took all the information from our pre-production questionnaire into consideration and tried where we could to add our findings into our production. In terms of publicity we used social media that is popular with our target audience such as Facebook and to get the word out there to the public and our target audience. As the camera person I spent a lot of time with the director making sure that we used as many different shots and angles as possible in order to keep the audience engaged in what Is happening on screen. We first used a high angle establishing shot allowing the audience to view the location as well as to protagonist. This allows the audience to come up with their own interpretation of what is going to happen. This increases the atmosphere of suspense as the audience wait to see what is going to happen next.

We also asked if people thought that the name The Challenge was a suitable name for a thriller film.

We used close ups of the protagonist to show the audience how the protagonist has been hurt. Whilst adding to our variety of shots. This shot also shows the audience that the protagonist has been seriously hurt. Making the audience question the reason why he has been beaten up.

The POV allows the audience to view exactly what the protagonist can see. Giving them a sense of being part of the story.

We then used a pan to allow movement on the screen, changing the audiences focus. Also allowing the audience to see more of the location and props.

Here the high angle shot allows the audience to see the protagonist from the view of a surveillance camera.

This use of a cut away connotes a sense of mystery to our audience for example who is that watching him. Making things seem more realistic to the audience.

We made sure that we regularly changed the camera shot in order to stop the audience from getting board of what is happening on screen. Our use of different shots and angles gives our audience different information about the location the protagonist and the story being put across. During the editing process allowed us to enhance our continuity and to keep our audience interested in what is happening on screen.
