HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA

TECHNOLOGIES IN THE

CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND

EVALUATION STAGES?

During the course of making the film, film poster and radio trailer, we have had the

privilege to use many different technologies ranging in both hardwares

and softwares.

PLANNIPLANNINGNG

Microsoft Word-This software used to create a plan on how we would go about executing this production.

-Through this software we were also able to create film schedules with its table creating functions

-The film script was written in Microsoft Word

-As we carried on filming and editing, I had to create a to do list with feedback which had to be out in action and other small glitches which had to be corrected

PLANNING

• Those who belonged to the social networking website, Facebook kept in touch through there.

• As I do not belong to one I used my Mobile which has a software called WhatsApp. This is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allowed me to send unlimited messages, media and audia files without paying for SMS or multimedia messages to other smart phones

• Through this I was able to talk communicate with all the members of the group and my actor, this was a fast and convenient way for fast replies.

• Facebook was used to get the survey which we created on SurveyMonkey across to our audience,

• After writing up the film script, we had to create a story board which showed the film through static images

• To this we had to use a story boarding sheet, then take still images and then import them into iMovie through which we created the animatic.

• We used this software to help us get familiar with the functions of editing

- When exercising the softwares we were to use we had the help and assistance of experts.

- Lokmen Chekki , a former cameraman and assistant producer at the BBC and Yoshito Darmon another cameraman have helped us understand the uses of camerawork. We used Final Cut Pro to have a basic understanding on the functions it has.

- They have both helped us gain a good insight into understanding the uses of a camera and things such as white balance. We did this using a filming camera and white paper.

- When it came to animating, we used Flash CS3, at first it looked very difficult at first, however with lessons practising how to do this with Trevor Jarvis, a professional animator has proven otherwise.

When it came to researching into the category that our film under we used a couple of website which gave us knowledge in the genre, Drama.

-IMDB.com (the internet movie database) – this website has thousands of films with additional information on the filmmakers, biographies, plot summaries, ratings etc.

-BBC – Film Network – I was able to watch short films which related to my genre. I was able to see camera, angle, lighting, sound techniques used in the films.

- SurveyMonkey

As mentioned before this website allowed us to create a audience survey where we got back fast feedback from those who participated.

The survey let us understand what type of movies and what parts they enjoy.

YouTube

-YouTube is a fantastic platform which can be used for many purposes.

-Through this video-sharing website we have been able to upload pour animation which we then could use the code for embedding into to other websites.

-I used this site to research and watch short drama clips also this was a good source from which I learnt filming techniques by watching tutorials.

RESEARCHGoogle is the search engine we used when we struggled with parts of

the production or even to help us prepare for the day when filming

- When checking the weather we searched it on Google

- When researching into film practise

- When having difficulties using certain software's all we had to do was Google it.

-We also asked questions to experts who came to work with us, this helped me in primary research

- The way we underwent our primary research on camera work was by working with Lokmen Chekki, a former cameraman and assistant producer at the BBC also Yoshito Darmon who is also another cameraman.

- I have asked all these experts questions on things I pondered about the work they do, this helped me in my primary research.

RESEARCH

Other factors we took into consideration are:

•Organisation of actors – making sure the contracts were signed, actors were present at all shootings

•Booking locations – ensuring booking was done, we booked a police station to use the interview room

•Health and safety checks – health and safety check were carried before filming

•Organisation of Equipment – I had to check out all equipment from college, that is signing out the tripod, filming camera and still camera, also making sure the cameras were charged for shooting

Camera

Whilst filming we used a Cannon and Toshiba camera, however the Cannon camera had proved higher professional quality filming. We then used the Toshiba camera for still images.

Final Cut ProThis was the software used for editing our film, at first we were going to use iMovie. However Final Cut Pro had proven to have much better functions for film editing.

At first it seemed to difficult, however practice makes perfect. After having to use it after every shoot, we got used to it.

QuickTime Player

Quick time is one of the most popular and versatile formats used around the world. It is accepted on most file sharing sites, including YouTube and Vimeo. We used this format for our final product so that we could share it with our target audience and anyone who may choose to watch it.

For the poster I had initially planned to use Adobe Photoshop, I learnt a how to use this, however I then decided to use to different software which I found to be easier to use and also had these softwares at home therefore was able to work on these whilst away form college.

These softwares are Picasa 3 and PhotoFiltre

iMac

This is the main computer we used to upload our work onto, it has all the software we required to edit the films.

Along with this I did use my own laptop so I could work at home and update my blog.

Digital Recording Suite

-Otherwise known as the studio, is where we recorded our trailer and voiceovers.

-We used logic pro and a microphone to create our radio trailer.

-I also had to download copyright free sound effects and music from sounddog.com

CONSTRUCTION

• I used Bluetooth from my phone which allowed me to connect to the iMacs and other mobile phones to send files through such as images of the actor agreements and film shoots.

• I used the external hard drive which was assigned to each group – this allowed me to save all the work I did during the process of creating our film and radio trailer, we saved all our still images on this also

• We used iMovie to create our opening title of out film, this software, had functions which helped us create an eye catching film title.

CONSTRUCTION

• Vimeo is the platform we used to share our video with the world, this let us upload our video which could be seen by anyone.

• By broadcasting the link, reeled in our viewers

• I also used slidshare which let me upload my PowerPoint presentation, this then generated an embed code which could be then posted on my blog

• Sound cloud is a platform you I will use to upload my radio trailer, this allows me to share and distribute audio files

Blogspot.com-This blogging website has let blog about all the work I have done from the beginning of the year where the advanced production seemed as if would never finish. However now its done and it feels like a great accomplishment.

-The planning, researching and evaluating of my work can all be seen here as I blogged every step I took.

I have been able to use this when evaluating during my course.
