Audience Feedback- What have you learned from your audience feedback?Caterina Jenunchi

Two Step Flow TheoryWhat is Two Step Flow Theory ?The concept for this theory is spreading of media text through word of mouth, for example I wet to watch the blockbuster Ramone in cinema and it was amazing , now I am going to tell my friends about how good the film is. This will lead people to go and watch the film, this will then get pass on the extended friends and families , therefore it reaches a global or national audiences. The reason why it is called two step is because the opinion leader who is the person that receives the information from the media source ,this then pass down to the second leader opinion leader, who is families , friends and colleagues.

How will it apply to our teaser trailer, magazine and teaser poster ?The aim of our film is to create a modern crime , thriller film. We wanted to create a enthusiastic and uplifting teaser trailer, poster and magazine, this is done by having young and energetic character to be cast as actors , this will evoke the young audiences to go and watch the film. However we decided to have a femme fatale character to give the film a spice and female power, this will help to attract female audiences.

Stage 1Stage 1 involves getting feedback for our initial ideas which included our magazine cover, poster and story board for our thriller teaser trailer. We did this using a feedback form that we created ourselves; we manipulated questions in order to understand what the audience really think of our work. Once this was completed we provided our teachers and class members with a form each to fill in for us to receive feedback from. We thought that choosing our class members and media teachers was the best audience to gain critical feedback from as they know the key conventions to look for in a magazine, poster and teaser trailer. By handing our products to any individual may be useless as they will have no experience in judging a campaign as they did not study it.

Questionnaire

These are questionnaires that our group have created. It was designed to understand what our target audience of teens and over would really like to see in a thriller trailer, magazine cover and poster. As you can see we have received feedback by the red selections and ticks. This feedback will allow us to adapt our campaign to create what an audience would like to watch to capture their attention and make a thrilling campaign.

Feedback Pitch

We decided to share our work to our class and teachers as this was the most practical audience. We staged a pitch to present to our class as this way we were able to visually show them our ideas as well as talk about them along the way to back up our work. As you can see these images were part of our presentation, we went through each idea one by one whilst they filled in the feedback form we provided them with to receive results from.

Feedback Form

This is an example of our feedback form that we created, as you can see it has been used which gave us the advantage to use the feedback to improve our work.We split our feedback form into sections creating a table, our columns had the label of each poster and magazine we drew and then we showed the audience our teaser trailer. Then on the top row we had three boxes which were strengths, weakness and a your choice (Please tick your favourite) in which the viewer picked their opinion of the strongest product for each criteria. We thought by having the weakness and strengths to fill out will be straight forward as we will look at the weakness and either take it out from our campaign or improve it. This was a good method in stead of asking the audience many questions to confuse them.

Feedback Forms

The Audience Feedback from this feedback sheet was mostly Positive. Positive comments included praise for our design of the Magazine and Poster ideas as well as for our sense of direction in the production of our Teaser Trailer. Negative comments came in the form of criticism towards the complexity and difficulty of some of our Magazine and Poster designs along with recommended changes that we could add to our Teaser Trailer.

Feedback Forms

The Audience Feedback from this feedback sheet is more mixed than the previous sheet. Positive comments on this sheet were more specific which helped us in our attention to detail during future editing. Negative comments on the sheet were more numerous and detailed than the previous sheet which, despite the criticism, helped us further add to the specific details in our overall design.

Poster Ideas

The audience said they liked the layout as it was very clear and they were keen on the diamond in the middle. This poster was ticked as favourite. The audience again said they really liked the layout and the positioning. The feedback for this was that is connoted thriller and portrays the dominant character clearly. However they said the boss character should be at the front instead of the man of action character.

Poster Ideas

The audience were very impressed with the design but they mentioned that it will be difficult to create. This poster was also ticked as favourite, however we did realise it was challenging to make so we had to pick an alternative. The audience really liked the facial expressions and how the main character is portrayed as dominant. They liked the layout however they said that the characters look very equal to each other. This was the poster that was most appropriate for our campaign.

Poster IdeasThe audience said they liked this poster although they thought the positioning of some of the characters should be changed. The audience said this poster connotes power very well. This was said to be a good teaser poster but not worth doing.

Stage 2This stage included feedback for our first edits of our production; our poster and magazines.Poster

We presented these two posters to our class and asked them on their feedback to which one they prefer for our final poster with some possible improvements. They went with the one with the white title as they said it looked like a professional poster especially with the billing block.

Magazine

We presented these two magazine covers to our class and asked them on their feedback to which one they prefer for our final magazine cover with some possible improvements. They went with the one with the white title as they said it looked like a professional magazine especially with the grey pug.

Stage 3This is the final stage of the feedback we received, this was on our final versions of our poster, magazine cover and teaser trailer.Magazine Feedback

We used WhatsApp message on our smart phone as one of the ways to distribute our magazine to receive feedback. We chose this method to get feedback from our friends and it was quick and instant which was an advantage. They were very positive by mentioning how the detail of the title font relates to the thriller theme as it has skyscrapers.

Poster Feedback

We used WhatsApp message on our smart phone as one of the ways to distribute our poster to receive feedback. We chose this method to get feedback from our friends and it was quick and instant which was an advantage. They were very positive by mentioning how the colours connote thriller. They also recommended we shouldnt portray the characters as equal.

Teaser Trailer FeedbackWow! The fact that you have chosen four different characters made it much more exciting to see watch one. However the ordering might be a little basic. Breon KoyenyiI really loved the shots you have used, especially the high ones of the city, it really felt like a real thriller trailer. Sobi SivathasThe soundtrack really added that extra suspense that was needed, it is spot on. Filene AcquahThe titles are very good! I really thought it was a real trailer when I saw them on screen. AnalysisThe Audience Feedback after we had finished our Final Edit was overwhelmingly Positive. We believe this reception was down to our willingness to listen and learn from our past criticisms.

Our Final Poster was praised for its impressive style and use of blending for the images of our characters into the bright neon background. It was also praised for its positioning of captions and text which gave it a authentic look.

Our Final Magazine Cover was well received in a similar way to the Final Poster due to our use of the same techniques for blending images into the background and using authentic text to a realistic look.

Overall me and my group are very pleased with our final products and have understood the advantages of receiving feedback. We were ecstatic with all our feedback even the negative comments such as the ordering of the scenes may be a little basic, these kind of comments allow us to understand what the audience would like in the future if we make another coursework like this. The feedback from this coursework has definitely allowed me to understand that there are many perspectives to create a product and you must use feedback to improve your work as people will always have different opinions and ideas which is benenficial as you can make your work better.
