3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Question 3 evaluation

For my media production I needed to make sure that I was able to make a film trailer, poster and a magazine cover that would meet the codes and conventions for a social realism film aimed teenagers/young adults 15 – 24. I have asked a number of different students from my school to give me feedback from my media text and from taking their feedback on board would help me improve my work.

From all the students I asked, they thought the trailer was good through its camera shots and its quality as it was filmed with one of the latest phone, As we used the I phone 5s we were able to do some editing on the phone so we made some footage in slow motion which would make more of a dramatic effect in scenes with, slow motion effect were liked most by most the viewers. On the other hand I received some feedback that the music was kind of off from some scenes, Having heard this I now know that I have to change footages, change some edits to being quick snaps and rearrange some footages around.

From my feedback I now know that the music and footage would need to go well together otherwise it would not make sense and it would not be appealing to the viewer. I learnt it is also important to use more footage of facial expressions in the trailer as the feedback we got was stated “you only see the back of her head all the time” by some of these students.

For our poster and magazine the feedback we got was that the second drafts turned to be the better ones as they had more colour on them and there was a mid shot of the main character, in the first draft there was an edit of a person walking back to front and in black and white which doesn’t make it appealing, also the same image was used for both magazine and poster. In terms of the magazine I learnt that the colour scheme should consist between 3-4 colours and to have suitable information on the magazine which will make it appealing to the readers. I learnt the writing was too quick for some of my audience due to the time constraints of my teaser trailer I had to be quite quick.

• Overall what I would need to do make a good trailer is to make sure music and the film footage go well the together, the music has to be suitable and to keep my edits fast paced so it doesn’t make the video longer. Overall I learnt that making a 1minute 30second trailer takes longer than expected.

• Mikaela - “I think that the music did no suit the trailer as much and should have had a slower vibe, overall with the editing and camera shots looked good.”

• Hassina - “I liked the ending of the trailer as her personality seems to change because at school she seemed invisible, from this I can tell there were 2 sides to her.”

• Mustafa – “I liked the slow motion edits on the trailer and it creates some type of a dramatic effect, throughout the trailer you can see the back of her mostly and not enough of her face.”

• Ajay – “I liked the music as it could tell the story of the film through the trailer, but it seems the writing was a bit rushed.”
