Page 2: Question 3

What is distribution?Distribution is the process of getting a film to a larger audience done through marketing strategies.

Film distributors try to make a film is internationally well know and to get as many people to what it is possible. One a film is filmed, edited and complete, a distributor will begin to work on its release; they will secure screening as start a buzz around the film. Every film has a different plan as to how they get their film to their target audience. Some examples of film distributors are; 20th Century Fox, Entertainment One UK, Lionsgate and Studiocanal.

Distributors and AudienceWe think that Syncopy would be a good distributer as they like the psychological aspect of the film which is something we have really developed on the opening sequence, however i still feel Kaleidoscope would be better for our film as they're independent, they tend to notice unknown writers and producers major companies would ignore.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution would also be a good company to approach with our thriller because they also specialize in psychological thrillers.

I think our film will appeal to a larger audience, however it may appeal more to people in the UK as the actors and characters are British so therefore it will be more related to the British public, however Americans do enjoy British drama, e.g. Sherlock, as it is different to what they're used to, e.g. Big Hollywood films like Star Wars, so therefore seen as more exciting and interesting.

Audience appeal

I think that due to the lack of dominance to one social category, our audience appeals to many people regardless of social group. To create a buzz for our film certain marketing strategies would be used. For example the use of social media would have a strong part of advertising the movie. Furthermore, teaser trailers could be released leading up to the release to engage the audience. In addition, due to the large audience appeal many more methods could be used such as tv and radio to market the film.
