*Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Question 2

*Presentation/house-style

*Audience and PresentationOn the cover I have used colloquial remarks

such as ‘awkkk’ to represent age of the audience and foreshadows how the language is presented within the magazine.

The subheadings to the cover-lines are not in rich text. Content is shortened to be listed in bullet points to make finding content easily. A recurring theme on my cover is the use of listing celebrities featured inside. This well appeal to the stars listed fan-base as they will enjoy reading about their favourite artist and those similar.

On the contents page I have used one center image rather than lots of small individual ones. This means that all attention is on the text beneath the photograph.

Both the cover and contents follow the rule of three.

Page 3: Question 2

For the cover I have presented the cover artist as if they were in the 10 - 15 year old demographic. Therefore the target audience can familiarise with artist. The angle of the photographs links with the popular trend of taking a “selfie”. Unlike pop magazines in general my cover model is presented as sophisticated whereas a magazine such as billboard would use more sexualising for cover model to reach an older audience.

CoverArticle

Contents

For the article I have presented the cover artist as casual and chilled out character. The lack of bright studio lighting gives an effect of real life for example, taking a photograph for fun and no use of high key lighting to represent spontaneously of the audience..

On the contents I have presented the cover model as fun, loving and innocent to reflect the expectations of the mass audience. The use of the main image is to promote the story which the editor has chosen as an important feature.. Using one image over multiples shows the significance of one story over many others..

*Age

My media product of an music magazine represents the age of the target audience. The use of a young, possibly teenage artist represents the relatable content from a teenager to a mass audience of teenagers. In my magazine cover I have used artist’s similar to the reader’s age to draw attention to the young, teenage, dominated female audience which are drawn into the magazine by image and type of artist, e.g. boy bands and top teen-pop stars. The content of the article is easy-reading meaning that it is not strenuous to read instead dominated by photographs and graphics.*Social groups

*Gender - The use of colour is a signifier of the sex the magazine are trying to appeal to. Generally, the magazine will feature topics relating to fashion and relating suggesting that my media product is a hybrid of music and fashion magazines.

*Gender and content – In my media product I have used content which will interest the targeted audience’s gender. This includes giveaways and competitions which would interest them. For example, in my ‘Win Win Win’ category I have included a ‘four’ cd/ I have chosen this example as the target audience are aged between 10 and 15. From existing magazines I have found that this target group enjoy listening to boy-bands and television musicians such as those on Disney. *Social groups

*How have I presented the

genre?

*I have presented the genre of teen pop on my product by using colour and type of font. Using sans serif fonts means that the young mass audiences of 10 - 15 year olds will find reading easier and clearer to read. The use of font on the masthead shows the fun side of the magazine.
