Page 2: Question 2

The main represented social groups of the hip-hop/rap genre is mainly associated with people who wearcertain fashion items such as:-hooded jumpers-track suits-Joggers-snap backs-do rags-bandanas as well as high tops and trainers.Other conventions associated with the hip – hop/rap genre include hip – hop dancing/ break dancingand graffiti styles. However all these stereotypes are only true for some people because not everyonefollows these types of fashion styles or the other things which are associated with the hip-hop/rapgenre. For example I enjoy listening to songs with the hip-hop/rap music genre, but I don’t wear most ofthe fashion styles listed above.

Facial expressions are very important in a hip –hop/rap magazine because you will find that on almost every single hip –hop/rap magazine the central images facial expression is always serious. You don’t normally find that they smile. This is because rappers want people to take then seriously and they want to be seen as tough so on my magazine I told the told him not to smile and to tilt his head a little just like rappers do.

Page 4: Question 2

Many people associate the hip – hop/rap genre to mainly black African-American males because it is a stereotype which has been around for many

years. If you are a white male or female you weren't regarded as a good rapper, obviously this has changed because of Eminem, Mac Miller,

Macklemore, Iggy Azalea and other white rappers. In the past Eminem was booed of stage because he was white, however now many consider him to be

the best rapper of all time. I decided to keep to the stereotype of a black rapper for the front cover and for the contents page I decided to challenge the

stereotype by using a white male. The rapper I tried to replicate is The notorious B.I.G as shown by the red box.

When taking the photo for my front cover I took a kind on low angle shot, so the camera was below the eye line. I drew a diagram of about how low the camera was. This is to make the central image look strong and powerful. This helps back the stereotype of tough black males. Black rappers are seen to have very short hair and are to be ‘feared’ a little. I also asked the person who is on my front cover to wear a hoodie.

The clothes the person on my front cover wore are very important as you can sometimes tell what social group a person is from biased on the clothes the wear. Stereotypically people who listen to hip-hop/rap wear hooded jumpers like the

person on my front cover does.

Page 8: Question 2

Hair also plays an important role on telling which social group someone belongs to. This is because people who listen to hip-hop/rap tend to either have very short

hair or braided hair like Snoop Dogg. Some have hair with short back and sides and other have patterns on their hair. These types of hair styles are stereotypically

linked to the hip-hop/rap genre.
