A quick storyIn 2000 I saw screen capture technology for the first time.Allows you to record the screen of your computer.I thought this can be used for feedback. But it took me 6 years to find out how to do it.

https://www.teachertrainingvideos.comExampleScreen capture allows us to record the screen of our computer.Potential to be used in many different ways.My original idea was around feedbackExamplesVideo 1-Feedback on a students textVideo 2-Feedback on longer essayVideo 3-General feedbackVideo 4-Mini grammarVideo 5-Feedback on a blog

Impacting on Qualityhttps://www.teachertrainingvideos.comStudents like the voice.Students feel it is more personal.More information is conveyed.Feedback can be elaborated on.Feedback can be very timely.Like having the teacher sitting next to you.Multimodal Student learning styles.Motivating/authentic listening material.Special needs students.Stylistic benefits.

We began to realise we could re-organise our approach to some of our courses

https://www.teachertrainingvideos.comFlipped ClassroomIt is a form of blended learningIt makes use of the fact that a lot of the teaching stuff can now be digitized and consumed up home.Free up more time for focus on tasks, coursework, projects in the class ( in groups/pairs/individuals).Put on the map by the work of Aaron Sams /and the Khan Academy. Many people had Flipped their classes long before their workFor example my own project took place in 2006 and was given 40,000 worth of funding from JISC/HEA in the UK.You dont have to flip a whole course.

What is it?It is not a methodology. It is more about the way that we organise our learning content. It fits very well with the Higher Education lecture mode.It attempts to bring the coursework elements into the classroom ( where the teacher can help) and move the teaching or input out of the lesson. It requires a lot of initial work as a lot of material needs to be digitized. It also requires the teacher to create interesting learning tasks/coursework for the actual class time.At the heart is a clear distinction between the types of learning taking place ( see next page).Part of it is about putting more responsibility on the part of the learner ( autonomy).

Bishop/VerlegerWe define the flipped classroom as an educational technique that consists of two parts: interactive group learning activities inside the classroom, and direct computer-based individual instruction outside the classroom. ChallengesInitial work.Learning culture of the students. What to do with students that dont do the initial work at home. How do you deal with the different pace of learning?Producing the group based, task based activities that take place in the lesson. What do students do with the videos?

My flipIn 2004 I took over the MSc in Multimedia and Education.Numbers dropping. Computer Science in decline.Began an experiment where I moved a lot of the traditional. teaching stuff out of the class.Reduced lecture time to 1 hour a week.Increased tutorial time.Class time was not group based activities but focused on the course work ( traditional idea of Flipped Classroom).Added the learning content on www.multimediatrainingvideos.com

All on-lineAdd content onto the internet for free.Anyone could access the videos.Generated a lot of interest in the course. Many inquiries on the back of using the videos.Students who applied could also go to the videos to get an idea about the course.Numbers increased at a time when the department closed all but two M level course. In the final survey 15 students out of 27 students said that th website had been a major factor/or the key factor that made them decide to join the course.ReactionStudents working on course work in tutor time.Students accessed videos at home.Lower level students really benefitted.Created a buzz on the course.Started with my own work but slowly other teachers came on board.Flipped about 50% of the whole master degree.

https://www.teachertrainingvideos.comRussell to RussellI cannot tell you how flabbergasted I was to meet up with you on Saturday. When Googling 'Russell Stannard' there seems to be only two of us on the internet. You could have been anywhere in the world, but there you were sitting next to me in the train! I had for a long time wondered about you because we are broadly in the same business: university academic, writing books, making videos.

Now I have some more amazing news for you. I have been studying our family.www.teachertrainingvideos.com

https://www.teachertrainingvideos.comSave to your computerWe can screen capture anything. In this example I provide feedback on problematic vocabulary.I make the recording and then save it onto my computer.I can then share it with students

Taking things to another level.Shift the focus to the students.Get the students to create recordings.Video 7 Example one MichelleVideo 8 Example two CeciliaVideo 9 Interview scenario

https://www.teachertrainingvideos.comExtractingCreates more project based, group based opportunities.Students still prefer face to face however..Prefer group based activities to lectures ( free up lecture time).Organises the blend more efficiently. A lot of digital stuff has been simply added to a course.SupportPresent.MeWhere can you find it?https://present.me/content/for-education/How can you learn ithttp://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/video-youtube/present-me.html
