September 2015 Queensland on the Go Page 3

August must surely be our busiest month of this year. Major preparation and final planning for a number of significant events is taking place 24/7!

The first of course is our very own Jamboree—GBG. A relentless increased workload and flurry of activity night and day is the agenda for every Committee member and program leader including the Support Centre. This is an enormous contribution by everyone and I personally thank each one of you for your commitment. Every Guide attending will enjoy a wonderful week of adventure and fun. Their experiences will remain highlights in their memory forever.

I spoke to some of the excited Guides who are attending the Great Bunya Gathering on Saturday at the Kindilan Family Fun Day. Excited is an understatement. Some of the parents were recalling the Jamborees and major camps they had attended as girls. One mother spoke about the memories of her first big camp and the precious friendships she still has, and introduced me to her Guide ‘bestie’ and her family who had come to the Family Fun Day.

The second significant event has been the recruitment of a new Manager for Kindilan. It was a very rigorous process and I’m sure you will share in the happiness of the outcomes. It was a very successful process and I look forward to introducing the new Manager to you soon. Thank you to all involved.

And the third is our beloved Agoonoree. With over 80 Guides and Leaders involved, we are looking forward to the camp. Caitlin O’Keeffe does a great job as Leader-in-Charge. Her merry band of supporters is raring to go. The image of the courage and sheer joy as I watched the physically challenged young people scale the abseiling tower and the belly laughter from the water slide will be forever etched in my mind. Bravo to every Guide that creates this space, from the laundry helpers and screen printers to the Camp Leaders.

Another major achievement was the successfully run Kindilan Family Fun Day. What fun was enjoyed by all who attended. It was so good to see Mums and Dads enjoy the fun, the canoeing, the archery and, most of all, to hear and see the laughter of families enjoying the Outdoors at our Kindilan. Special thanks to Kerryn and the Kindilan staff, Cathy Crittenden, Donna Thompson, Donna Little, Heather Pettigrew and Paul Nicholls for their back-up support and input to ensure a great day.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR

STATE TEAM

STATE COMMISSIONER

Page 4 Queensland on the Go September 2015

STATE COMMISSIONER CONT..

A massive thank you to our volunteers who manned the various activities to ensure all enjoyed a valuable outdoor experience. And, as for our dedicated event photographers for the day—Margaret Miller and Jamie Hill, well done! We have the best volunteers ever in Guiding. Thank you.

The Constitution passed an incredible milestone with all changes well received at the open forum held in the morning of the State Council meeting. The open discussions and engagement have produced adaptations and recommendations for the policies. Thank you and well done to all who participated, with special thanks to the Constitution Committee and the Board for their time and support to progress this important project.

On a personal note, I would just quietly say thank you for your condolences and notes of good wishes as our family comes to terms with the sad loss of Paul’s much loved Dad. Your kind thoughts and notes have been very much appreciated.

And finally a wonderful piece of news to share with you. I am now trialling having a third Assistant Commissioner. Let me explain. The proposed changes to our Constitution (well received at our open forum) enables the Commissioner to appoint up to four Assistants depending on the work load and need at the time.

My ever increasing work load has certainly identified additional needs. But there is also another key reason for my request to the Board to consider an additional Assistant Commissioner. As you know, I’m a strong advocate for mentoring. I encourage every Leader to mentor another in their role. Mentoring is such a critical leadership development tool and I want my leadership team to reflect all stages of Guiding (is that a nice way to say ages?).

So, the Board has agreed to allow me take to advantage of this interim time between the old and new Constitution to pilot a third Assistant. This makes no assumptions that all the changes will be accepted, even though it seems we are all excited at what has been proposed.

Holly Hardstaff, Unit Leader at the Gold Coast, has agreed to join our hard working team and be my third Assistant under this pilot. Her portfolio will revolve around marketing, social media, promotions and eventually supporting the Leaders in membership drives etc. Currently, she has a lead role in the Women of Substance Project Team and has been busy developing the required promotional material. Congratulations and thank you Holly - welcome aboard!

Yours in Guiding Velia Nicholls “Thalera”

Girl Guides Australia is delighted to announce three new appointments at national level—congratulations to Barbara Fairbairn of NSW&ACT on her appointment as National Trefoil Adviser, Nicole Young of SA as incoming National Olave Program Manager (from October 2015), and Bronwyn Hughes of NSW&ACT as the National GOLD Project Manager. We thank these three women for their dedication and commitment to Guiding and wish them all the best in their new roles.

At its recent busy and productive meeting, the Girl Guides Australia Board ratified the formation of a Marketing and Communications Committee, and is also pleased to announce a change in biscuit supplier. We look forward with excitement to seeing the new range that will be launched next biscuit season and are really pleased to be able to support an Australian supplier.

The Board also ratified the project plan for our national Financial Literacy Project (called “Guide Your Money”) and it is looking forward to watching that develop over time. Two of our other national projects are also progressing very well, with productive workshops held in Sydney recently for both the Free Being Me and the Voices Against Violence project teams.

We extend a big thank you to all our Leaders, Managers, parents and Guides who so positively responded to the call for feedback to our AGP Review. We have had over 4200 individual responses from all parts of the Guiding community including over 3000 responses from our Girl Guides.

NATIONAL TEAM REPORT

Right now our project team is busy crunching the data, with the support of an amazing volunteer research team of Claire Bickell (Vic), Alice Hennen (NSW&ACT), Jo Kitchener (NSW&ACT), Sara Vassallo (NSW&ACT), Gresley Wakelin-King (Vic), Lauren Wheatley (Vic) and Sharon O’Brien (WA).

September is shaping up to be extremely exciting for Australian Guiding. In mid-September, Girl Guides Australia is hosting “Guiding at the House” to showcase Guiding at Parliament House. State and National leadership teams will be present to attend meetings with relevant Ministers and Members of Parliament. Congratulations to the Olaves from each State Organisation who have been selected to attend in the role of “Support Team” for this event.

“Spark! Re-igniting the Olave Program” is also taking place in mid-September, to launch the amendments to the Olave Program that have developed from the Olave Program Review. Olaves and other Guiding members will join together in State events to celebrate and learn about the exciting possibilities in the new Olave Program.

And, of course, at the end of September hundreds and hundreds of Guides and Leaders are heading to the Great Bunya Gathering in Queensland for a week of fun, friendship and adventure. A big thank you to the Jamboree Organising Committee and Girl Guides Queensland for all their hard work to date and we wish them—and everyone attending—all the best for the event. We look forward to meeting many of you there!

GIRL GUIDES AUSTRALIA NEWS UPDATEREVIEWING THE AGP - UPDATESince the beginning of the year, Australian Girl Guiding has provided its views on the future of our Australian Guide Program. Under the direction of all State Commissioners, the project team designed a National Consultation Strategy which aimed to provide all members of Australian Girl Guides with an opportunity to provide input to the Review.

This strategy resulted in:

ʞ Over 3000 Girl Guides have provided feedback to the Review, telling us what they want for their future, their hopes for family and friends and what they want their AGP to do.

ʞ Over 1400 parents have provided feedback to our survey telling us what they love about the Program and what they would like to see happen in the future. Another 61 joined in purposely run focus groups which extend our understanding of what our parents are looking for from Australian Girl Guiding.

ʞ Over 900 Leaders and Managers provided feedback to the online survey telling us their key opportunities and challenges of our AGP.

ʞ Over 190 Leader and Manager caravans (or focus groups) occurred across Australia providing some amazing and incredibly powerful feedback on our Program, and the organisation more broadly.

EVALUATION AND ANALYSISRight now, another amazing group of volunteers are working through all the data—coding and classifying it, evaluating and analysing it to determine the key themes.

The feedback is rich and extensive. The views of our Leaders and Managers are diverse and robust.

Our volunteers are clear in their views about the challenges the Movement faces and the responses that need to be put in place. The feedback from our girls and young women is incredibly powerful. Hearing the voices of our girls on what they hope for their own future, their world around them, their friends and family, as well as Guiding and the Program, is providing a vivid and precious source of knowledge—it will give our Movement strong foundations and framework moving forward.

Our parents’ involvement in the Review is proving to be indispensable. We are learning some crucial lessons from our parents on not only the enormous value that they see in Girl Guides but, furthermore, clear ways that the Program can further support our diverse community.

In addition to this, the project has commissioned and will soon receive a report from an external Market Research firm (MindMill) that has interviewed members of the community that were a part of Girl Guides to further extend our understanding of the value of our Program and opportunities moving forward.

NEXT STEPSOver the next few months, the emerging findings of all this work will be unpacked and understood. Key leadership of the Australian Movement will come together to validate final recommendations before communicating the findings across all of Australian Girl Guides and implementing the recommendations.

We look forward to providing you with updates on this project in the weeks and months ahead.

2016 BISCUIT CAMPAIGNGirl Guides Australia is pleased to announce that, from 2016, the annual national biscuit campaign will be supported by a new biscuit supplier—Modern Baking Company (MBC).

The decision to move to MBC from Griffins represents a new opportunity for Australian Girl Guiding in terms of its fundraising efforts and also engagement in the community. The decision was endorsed by the GGA Board in July 2015 on the basis of support from all State Girl Guide Organisations.

This new partnership will be supported by a new marketing campaign. Members should note that the price of the product will increase. There is broad support for this as the price of our biscuits has not increased for many years whilst the wholesale price to the Girl Guide Organisations has increased. To maintain the value of the fundraising for Guiding, the view of management and leadership is that the retail price should increase and, furthermore, that this increase will not negatively impact the communities with regard to our Movement and its fundraising campaign.

The decision to move to a new supplier is of great benefit for Australian Guiding for a range of reasons including:

ʞ We will be working with an Australian manufacturer using local ingredients and employing local staff.

ʞ The relationship is a true partnership for Australian Guiding where values are shared.

ʞ MBC have substantial manufacturing capacity and similar experience—it produces the well known and loved ANZAC biscuits where proceeds raised go to the RSL.

ʞ We are expanding the range to include a gluten free biscuit in 2016 and other innovations are planned for 2017.

ʞ The new partnership will be supported by a revitalized marketing strategy.

ʞ The ordering process for the new arrangements will not markedly change with the new supplier. The first set of indicative orders will be requested in October with final confirmation at the end

Vale GONE HOME

OPERATION NIGHTHAWKOver the weekend of the 8-9 August, five very brave Guides from the Darling Downs Region competed at the Darling Downs Scout Association’s annual Operation Nighthawk. The girls left home base at 9.00 pm on Saturday and returned at 3.00 am on Sunday after completing their hike and challenge bases.

After returning to camp, team leader Katie Rae said, “I had lots of fun and was so proud of the girls for the persistence, determination and courage displayed on the course. Every Scout group we met was surprised to find a happy and bright Girl Guide group at 1.00 am on a Sunday morning; however, all the girls were cheerful and together we had a great time debunking the myths some of the Scouts had about us and making heaps of new friends. I must admit the addition of the Guide biscuits on the actual course aided in making friends!”

We competed as one of 70 Venturer teams … and placed a very impressive 9th! The behaviour of the girls was a true credit to themselves and their Leaders.

Thank you to Julie Neill (Kenyaya) for giving up her weekend and to Ingrid Spoelder for visiting. Thanks also to the Scouts for allowing up to participate at their event.

Annie Bailey (Naroo) 17/03/1933-30/07/2015

In 1946, Annie joined Girl Guides and would ride her bike 5 miles each way on a Saturday afternoon to attend Girl Guide meetings at the local school.

Years later (in 1975), she was asked if she would help out and she was signed up as a Leader. For 15 years, she was the Mareeba Guide Leader for girls aged 10-16 years. In this time, she gained her camping qualifications and gave many girls in the Region the chance to camp on her farm as well as all over the Atherton Tablelands. She staffed at many Region and State camps and took contingents of girls away to many State camps and events. In 1990, Annie started the Mareeba Gumnut Guide Unit and stayed as its Leader until November 2010. She stayed on as an Assistant Leader to her daughter Julie until November 2014, when poor health prevented her from continuing.

Annie also held the position of Cape York Region Arts Consultant. Through her commitment to Guiding, she received the Mareeba Australia Day Citizenship Award twice—in 2001 and again in 2002. Two of her daughters are Queen’s Guides. Annie earned the Adult BP Award in 1993 and received the Bar to the Banksia for good service in 1999. Annie was presented with her 40 years Long Service badge at the Tropical North Region Thinking Day celebrations in February this year.

Annie was an inspiration to us all and will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She will be sadly missed by many.Carol Lincoln

Yvonne MeggiorinYvonne was on the GGQ Hospitality Committee and was a tireless worker for Guiding. She was a member of Karawa Sub-Branch of the Baden-Powell Guild as well as a member of Tarragindi Trefoil. Yvonne’s family bought the Grimes’ home at Tarragindi and consequently has always had a very strong connection to Guiding in Tarragindi.

ʞ Paper, ʞ Pens/pencils

Method:1. Divide the girls into groups and ask them to

act out how they could keep their Promise in one of the following places - at a friend’s house, at bedtime, out for a family meal, at a sports match, in the park. The girls can choose their own scene and Law.

2. Give them 5 minutes to prepare.3. The other Patrols need to work out which Law

they are trying to keep and extra points for where they might be.

GUIDE LAW IN BALLOONSEquipment:

ʞ 14 balloons ʞ Guide Laws written out on 14 small

pieces of paper

Method:1. Take one part of the Law and place it

in a balloon, inflate the balloon and tie it off.

2. The girls sit in two lines facing each other. Each girl’s feet must touch those of the player sitting opposite her. She must not move them during the game.

3. The Leader throws a balloon between the players and each side must try to hit it over the heads of the opposing line. If it touches the floor behind the line, it is counted as a goal to the team facing in that direction.

4. After each goal, the girl that won the point pops the balloon and mimes an activity that represents the part of the Guide Law on the piece of paper inside.

5. The remaining girls decide what activity she is miming and which part of the Guide Law it represents.

6. When the correct answer is given, the Leader throws the balloon in again.

RESOURCES

FARMER AND HIS ANIMALSEquipment:

ʞ The Law or Promise on coloured A4 cardboard (a different colour for each Patrol), cut into age-appropriate size jigsaw pieces

ʞ Farm yard scene - one for each Patrol to build their Promise on

Method:1. Each Patrol is given a colour matching

the cards. The Patrol decides on an animal and its noise (horse neighs, sheep baas, cow moos, pig grunts, etc.)

2. The Patrol Leader is the farmer and the remaining Patrol members are the animals.

3. The pieces of the jigsaw puzzle are scatted around the hut.

4. The ‘animals’ find their puzzle piece and stand near it, making their noise until the farmer comes to collect it. The animal can then move to the next piece.

5. This is repeated until all the pieces are collected.

6. The Patrol returns to their corner and puts together the words of the Promise or Law on the farmyard picture.

7. The first Patrol finished is the winner.

PROMISE AND LAW TREEEquipment:

ʞ 1 twig that looks like a small tree per Patrol ʞ Plasticine ʞ Paper ʞ Pens/pencils ʞ Flower stickers or paper flowers

Method:1. Firmly plant the twig in the plasticine.2. Each girl cuts a leaf shape from paper and makes

a hole at one end.3. On one side of the leaf, each girl draws her

Promise Badge.4. On the other side, she writes or draws what she

intends to do to keep her Promise or Law during the following week, e.g., make her bed, be kind to her brother.

5. The leaves are then hung on the branch of the Promise tree.

6. The following week any Guide who has kept her Promise replaces the leaf with a small paper flower which she has made. Any Guide who has not kept her Promise must leave her leaf on the tree for another week.

7. See how many weeks it takes to transform the leaves to flowers.

8. To encourage all Guides to keep their Promise, praise these who gain a flower and also those who have been truthful in admitting they have forgotten.

RESOURCES

COLOUR MATCHEquipment:

ʞ Coloured paper squares or felt pens/pencils

ʞ Paper

Method:1. Ask the girls to pick a

colour for each Guide Law.

2. Get them to explain to their Patrol why they choose that colour. For example, if you picked green, you could match it to “Make choices for a better world” because green is a very environmental colour.

3. Depending on the age and skill level of the Unit, you could use felt pens and get them to write or draw each Guide Law in that colour.

THE GUIDE LAWAs a Guide I will strive to:

ʞ Respect myself and others ʞ Be considerate, honest and trustworthy ʞ Be friendly to others ʞ Make choices for a better world ʞ Use my time and abilities wisely ʞ Be thoughtful and optimistic ʞ Live with courage and strength

THE GUIDE PROMISE ʞ I promise that I will do my best ʞ To be true to myself and develop my beliefs ʞ To serve my community and Australia ʞ And live by the Guide Law

The Carr Cup was judged and the winner for 2015 is Aitkenvale District, with Wynola District coming a close second. Congratulations to all entrants.

MACADAMIA has been cancelled due to the low numbers. Only 4 applied. We have re-scheduled it for the end of November.

Have you started on your “Make a Joyful Noise” Challenge? This is a Challenge set by the Arts Committee (based on one from Kent East UK) and has a beautiful badge that you can earn. The syllabus can be found online at the GGQ website under Arts, or you can contact me or your Region Arts Consultant. Once you have completed the syllabus, order your badges through Arts—the form is on the back of the syllabus.

The badges cost $1.75 each plus postage ($1.40 for up to 20 badges, $2.10 for up to 40).

The song I have chosen to ‘Keep Guiding Singing’ in August is Barges. This song was written (some say) by a Canadian Guide who was permanently disabled and could see the barges working on the St Lawrence Waterway from her bed. You will find this on page 69 of the Let’s Sing song book or on page 8 of the Our Cabana song book. If you would like the music, let me know. There is a lovely harmony for the chorus which could be sung by a few girls.

OLAVE PROGRAM

MANAGER REPORTS

Rebecca Atkins Olave Program Manager, [email protected]

NEW PEER GROUPSAttention all Region and District Managers! In the past six months, we have had a number of new Olave Program peer groups starting up across the State. This is wonderful to see. It’s great that more and more young women are wanting to engage in a program just for them.

Many of these peer groups, however, are not being registered properly and may not be accessing the most up-to-date information and resources about Olave Program. It is very important that, if you have women in your Region or District who are looking at starting an Olave Peer Group, you help them to make the first step, which is contacting the State Olave Program Manager.

She can provide the correct forms, helpful hints, up-to-date information and resources, and support to ensure success. If she does not know about a peer group, it may be missing out on opportunities and experience. It also makes it very difficult for her to report on Olave numbers and participation.

CHAIN OF CARDBOARD CITIESWe are looking for an LiC for our event this year. If you would like to be a part of the organisation for this fantastic event that raises money for the state homeless youth, apply to [email protected]. Let us know why you would be the best candidate, what experience and skills you would bring to the role and your ideas for this event in 2015.

**SPARKGet excited for SPARK, the launch event for the new look Olave Program and Olave Program Framework. This event is happening on the weekend of 12-13 September all around the country. More information available on page 9 of this issue.

2016 OLAVE PROGRAM CONFERENCEGreta Keating has been selected to run the 2016 Olave Program Conference. This event is a great opportunity for Olaves across the State to get together and learn about the Olave Program and, most importantly, have fun! MANAGER REPORTS

Trefoil Guild members are always busy, but the middle of the year sees many Guilds holding their AGMs. Our Adviser, Sue Hawkins, has been notching up some miles in her car this month, travelling down from Toowoomba to attend as many of these as she is able.

Up on the Downs, winter saw the members from Warwick entering the Jumpers and Jazz Festival where they dressed up their trees in woolly creations. The Guide tree was very jazzy and the theme this year was Fusion. They opted for a maypole theme for their tree jumper. The Guides made the wool pom-poms and little people, then the Trefoil ladies put it together and finally set up the tree downtown. They have been participating in the event for the 14 years this unique event has been operating in Warwick. It certainly showed off the blue and the gold!

The Nostalgia Singers Trefoil used the World Centres as the theme for their annual camp and AGM at Kindilan. Campers and visitors took part in the theme by skiing, doing an elephant walk and making Mexican God’s Eyes before the meeting and partaking of an English High Tea afterwards.

The Unit does regular fundraising at the local markets where the girls learn about organising these as well as budgeting, advertising, etc.

Wendy is working through her passport at present and will attend the ALQP in November at Mackay.

DISTRICT RECORDSSome suggestions for keeping District records:

ʞ Write dates, number all pages and write full names in Minutes and Reports.

ʞ Keep records safe from light and dust. ʞ Avoid blutak, sticky tape and writing on

photographs. ʞ Avoid staples and metal paper clips as they get

rusty and damage paper and cloth. ʞ Photocopy photographs and write details on

the copy or place individual photographs in an envelope and write details on the outside.

ʞ Shoeboxes can be used for vertical storage of photographs.

ʞ Photograph framed items at the time they are fixed to a wall and record the identity of the people with the date.

ʞ If Guiding closes in a District, property is to be sent to the Guide Archive, including documentation for capital expenditure.

Records can also be kept digitally.

Keeping accurate and detailed records ensures that Districts are able to access information for answering queries and also for celebrating distinctive historical events.

WORLD THINKING DAY 2016The WAGGGS World Thinking Day (WTD) 2016 pack, built on the theme of ‘Connect’, invites you to explore and celebrate the meaningful connections that make our lives better, whether to the people closest to us, to a place we care about, or to a Girl Guide or Girl Scout friend on the other side of the world.

Making more positive connections matters because it helps us to be happy. But what does it mean to feel truly connected? Connected to who we are, connected to where we are, and connected to the people around us? Find out by making five connections.

Connect with me If we take the time to connect with ourselves and understand what makes us happy and confident, we can make a bigger difference in other people’s lives.

Connect with friends Connection is friendship, and friendship is happiness. So what makes a good friend? Connect with someone you care about, introduce a friend to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and explore the relationships that matter to you.

Connect with WAGGGS Look wider and connect with the amazing world of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. Feel like one in ten million, learn about our global Movement and visit a WAGGGS World Centre!

Connect with the world Look wider still and see how you can make a difference in the places you care about. Go outdoors and get active, get to know your community or a place in nature, and learn something about the world around you.

Finally, #connect10million and share your story with 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world!

This resource is a puzzle challenge in five parts. To earn the WTD 2016 badge, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts will need to choose one activity from each of the first four sections to collect the four puzzle pieces.

Then, they put their puzzle together and complete their final activity: #connect10million with the world. Each section has some very simple and quick activities, and some that take a bit longer or give a greater challenge.

The WTD 2016 badges and merchandise will be available in the WAGGGS shop from September 2015, so stay tuned!

Marjorie GrimesMarjorie Grimes started the first Girl Guide Company in Queensland in 1915. A member of the public has suggested that there should be a plaque on her grave to recognise her contribution to Guiding as the first Leader. The family has given their consent to Girl Guides Queensland adding a plaque with the Guide badge. From Guiding, there has been a request for a publication of Marjorie’s history. The girls need to know this information for BP and Queen’s Guide awards. There is a chance of funding, so to show the breadth of the support for the above project, a list has been started to show where people live. To show your support, email your name and postcode to [email protected]. This may be from members or the general public. ADVISERS REPORTS

We currently have availability for 2015 and 2016 for all groups so encourage your friends and acquaintances to visit our website or contact our Client Services Team to discuss your requirements.

ADVENTURE HOLIDAY PROGRAM, GOANNA GANG AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT DAYSPlease visit our website for further information on our holiday programs which operate each school holiday break for children 4 years (school age) to 13 years. In the September school holidays, we will be offering skill development days in addition to our regular programs.

CAMPING SAFETY AND CAMPFIRESWe would like to extend a friendly reminder for those groups camping outdoors to be careful where you set up your tents in the campgrounds. Please remember to look up and not camp directly under trees for your safety. With the cooler weather you may be more inclined to incorporate a camp fire into your program. There is currently plenty of dead wood around the property to utilise. Ensure that the camping grounds are left tidy and that any wood piles collected are removed from the sites prior to occupancy.

UPDATES AND REMINDERS ʞ In the Koona and Kindilan kitchens, the

exhaust fans are out of order. Please do not use the exhaust fans until directed further. These fans will be repaired soon. This will not pose an issue for any catering that you have planned.

ʞ Data projectors in both the Koona and Kindilan halls are not operating at full capacity (a colour band appears at the top of the screen). We are in the process of rectifying this situation. Please make other arrangements in the interim or contact us to discuss the availability of a portable data projector.

ʞ When occupying the accommodation areas, return all items to the correct building upon departure. If you believe that an item needs to be thrown away, leave it on the counter with a note, for auditing purposes.

ʞ The oven in Brownie Cottage is functional; however, the oven door does not seal properly.

WE VALUE YOUR FEEDBACKWe encourage you to keep an eye out for continual improvements around the property. Your feedback is important and we endeavour to remedy issues brought to our attention. Thank you for providing us with feedback.

KINDILAN’S FAMILY ADVENTURE FUN DAYThank you to the Guides who volunteered on the day and the Guide Units and families that supported the event. We understand that it was a hectic time as those involved were also busy with Great Bunya Gathering preparations.

GBG Getting To Know You DayGirls and Leaders came from far and wide—180 in total, including members from Southern Border and Darling Downs Regions, Hervey Bay and Gayndah Districts, as well as those in and close to Brisbane.A great day was had by everyone—meeting lots of people from their own group camps and making friends from the other Nut families.Girls learnt all about camp hygiene, camp etiquette, the environment and what to expect in a tent inspection. They even learnt the correct way to use the port-a-loos! They practised making a bed roll and testing it to make sure it will “go the distance” (thrown around so it doesn’t fall apart!).They erected ridge tents, dome tents and practised on a bell tent—some had never seen one before. They made the gadgets and practised all the knots they will need for camp. Lots of swaps were made--I’m sure there will be lots of ipads on camp! Thanks to everyone who came—we had a wonderful time.Debbie Frost Queensland Contingent Leader, GBG
