A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear families,

Next week is the last week of term 2. As per normal, we will finish at 3.00pm on Friday 29th June. A reminder also that Monday 16th July is a curriculum day and is therefore student free. The first day for students will be Tuesday 17th July.

This term, our students have engaged in many wonderful learning experiences. Our whole school swimming program, Afro-beat, Biggest Morning Tea and Deakin University dance students are just to name a few. There is much excitement brewing for next week’s whole school performing arts excursion to ‘Shrek’ as well as our whole school science ‘Planetarium’ incursion. What a great way to end the term. We will also be having our end of term assembly at 2.30pm on Friday 29th June.

Wizard of Oz rehearsals and workshops are well under way and it is just amazing to see the growth that has occurred since our last school production. Our performing arts program has certainly helped develop childrens’ confidence, singing, dancing and acting abilities. Next term, Miss Petrie will also be extending the program to include our rock band rehearsals. Watch this space for more details to come.

In the coming weeks, we will have our very own Queenscliff Primary School shopping bags for sale to all of our QPS family. These will be $8.00 each and can be purchased throughout the year. With the cessation of plastic shopping bags in Victoria, we thought this was a wonderful opportunity to not only promote our school but to do our bit for the environment as well. We have sourced quali-ty, heavy-duty, panelled jute bags which will incorporate our school logo as well as accommodate groceries for many shopping trips to come. Please enquire at the school office during term 3.

This term we welcomed two new students to our school and we have another student starting in year 1 next term. Our prep enrolments for 2019 are now finalised and transition sessions com-mence again on Wednesday July 18th and continue throughout the year. We are still able to take enrolments across other year levels should you know of anyone who may be looking to enrol at QPS for semester 2 or 2019.

In building works news, we are expecting the general office, conference room, sick bay and passage storage to be completed and handed over to us prior to the first day of term 3. External painting is almost complete, just with shade sail posts and some flashing to be re-painted after our roof is cleaned. The top small bitumen area is well underway being resurfaced and the basketball court preparation has begun. We expect these to take a little longer due to the weather dependent na-ture of the re-surfacing.

Have a wonderful mid-year break. Richard Buckingham

Grade P/1

In Prep/1 we have been very busy. In maths we are doing arrays and money. In literacy we are writing and reading. In inquiry we are watching our recycled vegetables grow. We are doing a chart about sustainability that shows us some good things to do and also, some bad things people do in our environment. In performing arts we were practicing our play. We have learned the end song and it is so fun. In Japanese we have been learning about Japanese lunchboxes. It was so fun. To make a healthy obento box you need to make sure that you have five colours in it – white, red, green, black and yellow. By April

Grade 2/3

Hi, my name is Keisha and I`m going to give the 2/3P class report. Our chicks have grown and are 6 weeks old. The whole class have been busy producing our first news report show. All students have a job. We have also given our presentations on explorers. It was fun. Have a good weekend. By Keisha

Grade 4-6

Hello all, We have been exceptionally busy these past few weeks.

Japanese/Cooking In Japanese, rather than doing a normal lesson, we combined the session with cooking and we made Bento Boxes (Japanese-style lunchboxes). Sensei Mutton, our Japanese teacher, generously provided us with ingredients to add to our boxes. We were split into 3 groups: The Cherry Blossoms, The Sumos and The Bullet Trains. Our groups worked in rotations and added different things to the boxes in each one. We cut sausages to look like octopi, cooked some meatballs and eggrolls, and had various fruits and vegetables to add to our lunchboxes. We also made rice balls (in many different shapes – the most popular shape was a panda). We held a competition for the best box and are looking forward to seeing who won.

Performing arts Earlier this week, we had a whole-school performing arts session, going over the entire play. We practiced the final song, ‘A Brand New Day’, which every character was a part of. There were lots of solos: the soloists being Bailey, Rico, Phoenix, Keira, Declan, Liam, Izzy, Scarlett, Grace, Georgia, Noah Lang and Matilda.

Math In Math, we have been learning about measurement. We have converted centimeters into meters and practiced simi-lar things as well. We measured the height of our whole class with our measuring paper on the wall. Keira is the tall-est student in our class, being 1.655 meters tall. We combined the total height of our class and it was 28,765.5 centime-ters altogether. We have had a very exciting past two weeks in 4-6B. Written By Keira Allison and Isabella Grima
