Election fever has spread into the classrooms this week with the results being broadcast on the Interactive

Whiteboards and children in Year 5/6 writing their own manifestos.

It has been amazing to see how engaged our children have been

with the General Election and how interested they are in what it all

means. Whilst eating my lunch in the dinner hall this week, a child

asked for approval to make bunting, leaflets and rosettes to

convince her classmates to vote for her party.

Teaching children about Democracy and the Rule of Law is an

important life skills. The children in Year 5/6 have been passionate

about presenting their manifestos on a chosen area from Education,

Crime, Health, Environment and school meals. Classrooms were

turned into Polling Stations, speeches given and voting cast…At the

time of writing the newsletter, the Year 5/6 results were being

counted; the winning party from each Year 5/6 class will be

announced in due course!

Even children in Reception got involved in the Election fever with

Mrs Petraglia reporting that the children in EYFS wanted a

A Close Shave – A request from a parent

I had one of those moments you fear as a parent last week. A

moment when I thought my child was going to get seriously hurt.

My daughter was with me on the school pick up. She was riding

her scooter and was a few metres ahead of me. She stopped

opposite the school, waiting for me to catch up so that we could

cross the road together. Whilst she was waiting, a car parked

half on the road and half on the pavement began reversing with

her stood right behind the back wheel. I managed to stop the

car in time before it hit her, but it was close, it was too close.

I have to highlight the dangers of parking on the pavement,

particularly directly outside the school gates. Pavements are

meant for walking on, a safe place for children. They are not

meant to be driven or parked on. Reversing is particularly

dangerous because you simply cannot see if there is anyone

smaller than your back windscreen standing behind you.

If you can’t find a space to park your car, please do not resort

to the pavement. If you do find a space on the road to park,

make sure your whole car is parked on the road.

Let’s keep our children safe on the pavement.

Thank you for your considerate parking.

Following this incident being reported to us, we have been in contact with the police. We have been advised that they will be attending school on a regular basis to ensure that

everyone is parking considerately. Also cones will be placed on the pavement opposite the

school to help ensure that our children are safe, can see and be seen clearly, when crossing the road.

Please ensure that you do not park in the coned area. Thank You.

Keep Cool! As the warmer weather

approaches it is important to

keep our lunch fresh and safe.

Please help by using either a

cool bag or an ice pack. Another

popular way is to include a

carton of frozen fruit juice,

which will then thaw during the

morning and be an icy cold drink

- delicious! For more tips on

healthy lunchboxes please visit

Eaton Vale Some of our Y6 pupils paid a

visit to Eaton Vale Activity

Centre this week where

they met the resident dog,

Sam and investigated some

of the exciting activities

they will be experiencing

when they visit after SATs.

KS1 Gardening Day with

We were delighted to have Longwater Sainsbury’s staff from a

“Great Place to Work”, kindly volunteer to help in our annual KS1

Gardening Day. All of the class garden beds got a good tidy up and

lots of new plants planted by the children. We had a school tree

decorated with red noses and panels in the playground decorated

with numbers and children’s handprints. It was a great day and a big

thank you to everyone involved.

If you shop in Sainsbury's Longwater, look at the Community Notice

Board, near the main entrance to see photos from the day and the

Thank you cards that the children made.

Thank you to Forsters Nursery in Costessey and Norfolk Organic

Group for their kind donations.

£373.72 raised on our Non-uniform Day to help the people

in Nepal. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

As many of you will have realised, Mrs Marrison is expecting her

second child. She will be starting her maternity leave after half

term and I am sure you join me in wishing her and her family well.

Mr Roughsedge will resume his role as class teacher for

Les Papillons Verts - he taught the class in the Autumn Term so the

children know him well and he is looking forward to teaching them

again.

And for those who might be wondering who Mrs Bagge is a very

warm and belated congratulations to Miss Howlett

who got married over the Easter holidays.

Would you like to save over

£350 per year? Dependent upon your family circumstances, your son/daughter

may be entitled to a free meal every day. (All children in Rec &

KS1 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals)

If this is the case, the local authority has funds

allocated for this purpose.

Please contact the School Office this week

And ask for Form FSM1. All information is confidential.

Costessey Library Visit

Children from Lower Key Stage 2 visited Costessey Library on

Monday 27th April. They all had a great time looking at what

they had access to in the public library:-

• Books

• DVDs

• Audio Books

• Games

"I enjoyed reading in the Costessey Library, the lego books were my favourite. I was really happy to get my Library card, I keep it safe in a chest of drawers. It's great on the mobile Library bus which visits school. Last time I went on I got a DVD, which I watched with my brothers. Did you know you can borrow 15 books on your Library card?" Bailey M

" The Costessey Library was great fun I loved it. With my new Library card I chose two audio books which I enjoyed listening to. It was really easy to return the books as I took them back to the mobile library bus which visits the school." Kayla M
