Why it’s almost impossible not to fall in love with QueenVillageQueen Village in Philadelphia has a rich history, which dates all the way back to the mid-1600s. Itsoriginal name was Southwark, and its initial settlers were Swedes, way back in 1642, four decadesbefore William Penn and the English arrived. Quakers back then thought it was a sinful place whatwith all the gambling and entertainment going on.

genuine interest within the field very earlyon and was able to steadily build from thereand fully make his way within the industry.

In addition to having a full timecommitment to enhancing the client andend user experience through activedecisions that Adrian makes during thedevelopment process, he does make timefor his personal passions. Adrian has alwaysbeen very engaged in the arts andespecially those that fall into the categoryof fine arts. Whether he was learning aboutfamous artists as a kid at home, studyingart history at school, or sketching out apencil drawing, Adrian is always a stonethrow from the artistic process. He spendsmost of his free time studying andresearching works of art that expressemotion in a profound way. He enjoysexploring new and old exhibitions alike, andalways looks forward to new galleryopenings as they provide an excellentopportunity to get a sense of the currentpulse of the art-world. With such anextensive and well-established backgroundin fine art, Adrian can't help but findmodern art to be absolutely fascinating.

Coming out of such a traditional backgroundwhen it comes to art, Adrian Rubin feelsvery comfortable and well-versed in theworld of classics. And he will always have asoft spot for classic artists like Da Vinci andPicasso. However, he feels like paintingsthat are a bit more modern tend to have aunique electricity that runs right throughthem. The unapologetic works by artists likeJasper Johns, Richard Serra, Jenny Holzeror Kehinde Wiley captured Adrian'simagination as soon as he saw them. However, Adrian doesn't find these tastes tobe in competition with each other, insteadthey complement each other. You can visithis Art Blog to find out more about his taste- both refined and contemporary.

In addition to being a staunch art aficionadoand dedicated real estate professional,Adrian Rubin is a longtime contributor tothe Children's Hospital Association inAmerica. This particular organization soappeals to Adrian because of theoverwhelming gratitude that he felt afterthe birth of his first child - which wasfollowed by an immediate sense of shockand deep sadness when he considered thedifficulties that parents must face whentheir children are not healthy. After Adriangot over that initial shock from thisrealization, he knew that he had to act. Sohe did some research and learned about allof the incredible work and service for sickchildren provided by this particularorganization. Adrian believes our futurestarts with the health of our kids and wantsto teach others the importance of keepingour children healthy and happy. Adrianregularly volunteers at many children'shospitals within his area in Philadelphia,PA.

More about Adrian, he really loves golf. Notonly playing it, but watching it, too. Golf isa type of meditation for Adrian as heunwinds with his friends and colleagues.Adrian has not always been such an avidgolfer. Although he went to the green everynow and then with his family or friends as akid, it wasn't until he was an adult lookingfor a new hobby that Adrian really foundjoy in the sport. He usually plays two orthree times a week, but arranges his

For three centuries, Queen Village was where dockworkers and their families built their homes. Butat the dawn of the 20th century, Russian Jewish immigrants arrived and started a vast selection ofbusinesses on South Street, which was the border of Society Hill and Queen Village.

In the early 1960s, all the artists and owners of storefront restaurants rallied to keep thegovernment from demolishing South Street to make way for the Schuylkill Expressway, thuspreserving the rich history everyone in the area had fallen in love with.

The sentimental stretch from South Street to Ninth, all the way to Front Street was never touchedand still to this day remains the “hippiest street” in Philadelphia. Queen Village is a haven forpeople who love adventure and history, what with all the artifacts from cutting-edge fashion toVictorian fixtures, to exotic cuisine. It is truly impossible not to fall in love with the place.

Understanding Marina Abramović's "Expiring Body" held at theFabric Workshop and Museum in PhiladelphiaMarina Abramović is probably one of the most provocative performance artists to confront andexplore heavy topics like identity, body politics, and the relationship between performer andaudience. The Serbian artist’s work has also innovated interactive renditions that problematizemany aspects of creativity, reality, and the nature of the human mind.

“Expiring Body” is one of Abramović's most notable works. It is divided into two parts, with bothparts consisting of a series of videos. The exhibit ran from December 1998 to February 1999 at theFabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia. The installations account for both the physical and themental, with “The Body” section represented by a culturally diverse collage of body parts engagedin various activities and “The Diary” segment by a selection of videos where various people areengaged in rituals that involve psychic transactions.

There is something amazing and complex about Abramović's artistic vision for “Expiring Body.” Onone hand, it is a testament to the physicality of the body which has been one of the main subjectsof her performances. On the other hand, it examines the mind’s capacity to transcend the body’slimitations. The work also scrutinizes and illustrates cultural boundaries and interactions, or howcultures can define and control the relationship between the body and the mind.

Ultimately, the installations depict the extent of Abramović's performative concerns reflecting thebody’s physical obstacles. For her, it has always been a search for transcendence, for the completemastery of physicality’s failures. This is also where the tragedy lies, because at the heart ofknowledge is mere approximation. But the art is the experience, and so these provocations willalways have a place in a person’s quest to understand contemporary life.

Top architectural marvels of the modern worldYou’ve probably heard or read about the many architectural wonders of the ancient world like theGreat Wall of China, the Hanging Gardens, the Colossus, or the Great Pyramids. But what aboutthose of the modern world? Here are some of the most awe-inspiring monuments of the modern age.

Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

At a height of 452 meters, this is the current tallest twin towers in the world. In fact, the toweringmegastructure was the world’s tallest building until 2004, when it was surpassed by Taipei 101. Thetwo-storey bridge that connects the two towers remains the world’s highest. This tourist attractionstands as a symbol of both the culture and economic growth of Malaysia.

Sydney Opera House (Australia)

A testament to ingenious modern design, with roofs shaped like sails, the Sydney Opera House is theiconic representative building of Australia to most people. It’s a multi- venue performing arts centerthat hosts above 1500 performances and attracts 2 million visitors per year. In 2007, UNESCOdesignated it one of the world’s heritage sites.

Beijing National Stadium (China)

This impressive steel megastructure is shaped like a bird’s nest, and one of the most recent on ourlist. Construction began in 2003, and it cost the Chinese government $33 million. It opened on the28th of June 2008, just in time for the country’s hosting of the 2008 Olympics. It is currentlyrecognized as the largest steel structure in the world.

Burj Khalifa (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

This list won’t be complete without the Burj (sometimes spelled “Bhurj”) Khalifa. With its tipresting at a dizzying height of 828 meters, it is the tallest building in the world, holding more than200 storeys of residential units, offices, and retail spaces. Its design is inspired by the hymenocallisflower, which was coupled with patterns described in Islamic architecture. It officially opened (andentered various world records) on January 2010.

The Life and Art of Takashi MurakamiThe world of modern art is somewhat smitten with the works of Japanese artist and entrepreneurTakashi Murakami.  Murakami has co-worked with a lot of famous artists—including pop culture iconKanye West—as well as big fashion brands like Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton.  But what makes himdifferent, and how does his work stand out?

these capabilities to light, students musthave a holistic education.

Sadly, fine arts programs have been leftout in developing curriculums. Instead ofencouraging children who have a leaningtoward the arts, these young minds don’tget a chance to harness their excellencein what they’re good at. Those who aregifted in the field of science will alsobenefit from art as creative exerciseteach them how to go beyond theformula.

Engagement in fine arts is a crucial part of the educational process. Aside from engaging a learner’semotions and enhancing their experiences, it is also a way for them to interact with other people.By developing perceptual and cognitive skills, learners become more aware of the world aroundthem. This is a skill that is very much needed in the Information Age where all the information canbe handed with a click or a swipe. Using one’s imagination and reading non-verbal clues are some ofthe skills children of this generation need to develop.

Lastly, fine arts are a way for people toexpress themselves and theirunderstanding of the world. Throughvisual arts, theater, dance, and creativewriting, students are given a chance toshare what they know through differentmeans. In the long run, it will help themsee that many perspectives can be usefulin approaching life.

Having a little bit of creativity cancontribute to a person’s breakthrough inhis or her chosen industry. In manyinstances, success comes to those who arewilling to try something new.Adrian Rubin from Philadelphia is a real

Real Estate Experts Weigh In: Should You Trust Your Gut WhenBuying? One of the most common question homeowners have when they see their real estate agent is howmuch stock they should place on their gut feelings for a piece of property.

Real estate is both a business transaction and an emotional commitment. For the most part, homebuyers buy one real estate asset their whole lives; this decision, therefore, is highly important tothem and they are averse to mistakes.

There are conflicting views on whether homeowners should trust their gut when making their first(and perhaps only) purchase. The long and short answer to this question, real experts say, is yes. However, that being said, the “gut response” should be tempered with these suggestions. Theseassure the homeowner that their gut thought is neither influenced nor manipulated by otherunnecessary thoughts.

Understand the intention behind the purchase: Home buyers are encouraged to make a list (basedon their intuition) on what they really want for their house. This list should not be limited by thebasics, but should be based on how the home is envisioned. For example, if the home buyer picturesentertaining in their home, then the property needs to have an area where parties can be held.

Notice when the list doesn’t matter: The list is meant to serve as a jump-off point. It is nevermeant to serve as the be-all-end-all guide. Sometimes owners will be introduced to a house that hasnone of the items listed. However, there might be a special magic about the house that calls to thehomeowners. Such feelings should not be ignored.

Trusting one’s feelings: Real estate experts say that gut feelings are often accompanied by somekind of physical sensation. There is a sense of warmth or a wave of goose bumps when somethingfeels right. To be sure, logic and practicality should be injected in the situation. Homeowners shouldnot purchase a property just because it is trendy or “cool,” for example.

Remember that when real estate experts say trust one’s gut, it also means understanding one’sfeelings. Small joys -- such as wanting to be cool even if one doesn’t really like it -- is not the sameas appreciating the little qualities of a home.
