Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy
Sacrament. I love You above all
things, and I desire to receive
You into my soul. Since I cannot
at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were
already there and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me
to be separated from You. Amen.
Parish Mission Statement: Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish is a welcoming diverse family of faith. Living the
sacraments (God's gift to us) and proclaiming the Gospel through scripture and tradition, so that we may grow in
holiness and love to serve one another.
Our mission is to nurture a close personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through word,
prayer, and example, centered in the Eucharist.

Remember, O most gracious
Virgin Mary, that never was
it known that anyone who fled
to your protection, implored
your help, or sought your inter-
cession, was left unaided. In-
spired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O
Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I
come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrow-
ful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise
not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and
answer me. Amen.
On Sunday, August 23rd at 4:00 PM,
11 Youth from our parish will receive
the Sacrament of Confirmation
at Our Lady Queen of Peace.
We ask that you remember them in your
prayers that they may live a good Christian

Please Pray for the Children
Preparing to Receive Their
First Holy Communion
To Be Celebrated at a Special
Family Mass on Saturday,
August 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
P.S. The children said the corn and boxed potatoes recommend-
ed by Interfaith Ministries would be good to bring. They also
thought the children who need food might like some “kid cereal”,
“big jars of peanut butter and jelly,” plus “some good things like
Spaghetti-O’s and Meatballs in a can.” Also note that Interfaith
this week has requested Mac ‘n Cheese and soups.
The children are praying that the “Food Collection Basket”
in the Narthex overflows at the Weekend Masses:
August 15 and 16 as a sign of our Parish’s gratitude to
Jesus for the rich banquet he gives to us at each Mass in
the gift of his Body and Blood!
Thank You for Your Participation

th
Sunday in Ordinary Time: Matthew 15:2128 Jesus left that place and went off to the territory near the cities of Tyre and
Sidon. A Canaanite woman who lived in that region came to him. “Son of David!” she cried out, “Have mercy on me, sir!
My daughter has a demon and is in a terrible condition.” But Jesus did not say a word to her. His disciples came to him and
begged him, “Send her away! She is following us and making all this noise!” Then Jesus replied, “I have been sent only to the
lost sheep of the people of Israel.” At this the woman came and fell at his feet. “Help me, sir!” she said. Jesus answered, “It
isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” “That’s true, sir,” she answered, “but even the dogs eat the
leftovers that fall from their master’s table.” So Jesus answered her, “You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be
done for you.” And at that very moment her daughter was healed. (GNT)

There is a lot to understand in our gospel story today, but there are two especially important points. First, the woman
in the story is from another country known as Canaan. The people of Canaan did not believe in God. The Jews, like Jesus,
worshipped God, but the Canaanites worshipped many different gods and idols. At first, Jesus makes it clear he has been sent
by God to save the Jewish people. However, Jesus then widened our understanding of all those for whom he has been sent
and for whom God cares. The Canaanite woman wanted Jesus to heal her daughter, (as in the story of the Centurion who was
a Roman, not a Jew, and he wanted Jesus to heal his servant). Jesus saw her love for her daughter, and he could see that she
believed in God’s healing power. He also saw that the woman was persistent; she did not give up in her prayerful requests and
pleas for the healing. In fact, Jesus was so moved by the woman’s love and belief in his healing power that he said to her, “You
are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you.” In that same hour her daughter was healed even though she
was not there with her mother (again, this healing is like that of the Centurion who had great faith and said, “Lord, I am not
worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my servant shall be healed.” After which, Jesus healed
his servant, just as he heals our souls in the Eucharist). Jesus is once again showing us that faith in God and His power, as well
as love for others are conditions for healing and receiving His life in us. At that moment when the Canaanite woman believed
in Jesus, and showed her love for others, she was practicing the life of the Christian. Jesus gave us the commandment to love
God and to love others! The Canaanite woman became that image of Christian love, and Jesus gave her the healing for her
daughter that is available to us, too, through our love for others and our love for God.

The second important point is to recognize that Jesus’ love was not just for the people who were Jews, like him. Jesus’s
heart of love was endless, and he showed the disciples that their love must include all others, even those unlike themselves.
We see this type of love in many different gospel stories where we hear of Jesus’ love for the Canaanites, the Samaritans, the
Romans, and others unlike him. Jesus communicated that God had created all people on earth, and if we are to be like God,
then we, too, will love all whom He created.

Think about this: Let us reflect on our love for others and belief in their goodness this week! Do I really believe that God
created all people? Is there a group of people who are not loved in the world or in my school who need my love and prayers?
