Coronavirus Prayer from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops by Archbishop José H. Gomez

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and de-liverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

5th Sunday of Lent

SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER God is our refuge and our strength,

an ever-present help in distress. The Lord Almighty is with us!

Psalm 46

As most of us “Shelter-at-Home”, we recognize that life has changed drastically. The news of the pandemic changes every day as we learn of all those who are tirelessly working to make wise decisions and assist in care, protection and outreach efforts. We at Queen of Apostles are isolated from being with one another, yet we are grateful that we can watch our Sunday live stream Mass with our three priests (and at other churches) and receive Spiritual Communion. We are grateful to access this bulletin and for our parish and school staffs that are using Zoom to keep us connected in RCIA, RCIC, Faith Formation classes and school’s distance learning.

As we journey through Lent, our isolation continues to invite us to spend quiet time with Jesus. We are called to simply be with Him, to listen for His personal message to us. We are also experiencing sacrifice, even more in this pandemic time, and we are called to reach out. Have you connected with a parishioner, neighbor, coworker or someone across the country by phone, email, text or letter? Think every day of someone who would appreciate hearing from you. St. Paul writes “The Spirit of God dwells in you.” Connecting allows you to experience the Spirit of God in another, too. Have you reached out in other ways?

I’ve heard stories this past week of our parishioners who have called one another. Some feel so alone and a call has made such a difference. Others have called our priests to pray for their intentions. Some have taken walks together. Some have helped Marge, our 104 year old, to find a Mass on her regular TV channels. And in the midst of these uncertain times of distress, God blesses us with great joy! Becky Lamb texted many with wonderful news on Thursday with a photo of her new granddaughter, Eloise Rose: born 7:23 pm 7 lb. 8 oz. 20.75 inches. She texted, “God is good! I’m in love!” Look at the DETAILS of her birth! God takes care of all the details in our lives. God will see this pandemic through. Look to God with hope.

Family Faith Formation Faith formation is more than just “Sunday School.” It is a life-long pro-cess. At Queen of Apostles, our Fami-ly Faith Formation ministry presents opportunities for both children and

adults to grow in knowledge and understanding of their faith. In addition to our weekly classes we offer preparation for the sacraments, encourage active partici-pation in Sunday liturgies, and provide resources to pro-mote strong Catholic families. For more information, con-tact Kristie Manning at 408-253-7560 ext. 104, or email [email protected].

School News Queen of Apostles School continues to conduct distance learning. The students miss each other yet are able to communicate that with each other online. They are adapting to this

new learning environment quickly. It is wonderful to see the innovations by their teachers to communicate the coursework. Thank you to the Diocese of San Jose who shared online resources for teachers and to Google Class-rooms, Zoom, and all of the many other companies who have made it possible for students to continue their learn-ing and social interaction.

For Grades K – 8th Registration is now open for all grade levels. You can register on line at www.qofa.org and click on the link for Faith Formation, or a registration form is available at the parish office.

A message rom Kristie Manning: In the ever evolving COVID-19 situation, we have been asked to suspend all classes until the end of March. This impacts Liturgy of the Word, RCIA, MSM and all other faith formation classes. For sacramental prep, I am cur-rently exploring an online option, and will be in touch with those families in a separate email, once a game plan has been established. If you would like to have a copy of your child's curricu-lum for the next few weeks, please let me know and we can arrange for pickup. Thank you for your patience, and I will keep you all post-ed as new information is released.

Spiritual Communion The heart of our faith life is the Eucharist.

What is Spiritual Communion? It is a deep desire to receive Jesus in circumstances when we cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. It only requires a desire to embrace Him and turn to Him with your whole heart. No particular prayer is required. Here is the most popular one composed by St. Alphonsus Liguori: My Jesus I believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire You with all my heart. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, I ask You to come spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already in my heart and unite myself to You completely. Please do not let me ever be separated from You. Amen.
