E x p e r i m e n t a l r e s u l t s f o r t h e s e r e a c t i o n s a r e n a i v e l ye x p e c t e d t o b e r e p r o d u c e d p r e c i s e l y b y t h e o r e t i c a l w o r k s , s i n c e t h e r e a c t i o n s a r e i n d u c e db y t h e w e l l - k n o w n e l e c t r o m a g n e t i c i n t e r a c t i o n a n d i t i s b e l i e v e d t h a t t h e s t r u c t u r e o ff e w - n u c l e o n s y s t e m s c a n b e c a l c u l a t e d r e l i a b l y . D e s p i t e o f t h i s e x p e c t a t i o n , t h e r e s t i l lr e m a i n c e r t a i n d i s c r e p a n c i e s b e t w e e n e x p e r i m e n t a l d a t a a n d t h e o r e t i c a l r e s u l t s . W e a r ei n t e r e s t e d i n t h e o r i g i n s o f t h e s e d i s c r e p a n c i e s .

T h e p h o t o d i s i n t e g r a t i o n o f n u c l e i w a s s t u d i e d t h e o r e t i c a l l y u s i n g t h e q u a s i - d e u t e r o nm o d e l b y L e v i n g e r [ I ] a n d l a t e r b y F u t a m i a n d M i y a z i m a [ 2 ] . T h e y e x p r e s s e d t h e p h o t o -d i s i n t e g r a t i o n c r o s s s e c t i o n o f n u c l e i u s i n g t h o s e o f d e u t e r o n w i t h a c e r t a i n f a c t o r , t h e s oc a l l e d L e v i n g e r f a c t o r , w h i c h a c c o u n t s e s s e n t i a l l y f o r t w o e f f e c t s , t h e r e l a t i v e w a v e f u n c t i o no f t h e p n p a i r a n d t h e e f f e c t i v e n u m b e r o f d e u t e r o n s i n t h e t a r g e t n u c l e u s . R e c e n t l y , t h eL e v i n g e r : f a c t o r w a s u p d a t e d a n d d e t e r m i n e d f o r m a n y n u c l e i u s i n g c u r r e n t d a t a o f t h er m s r a d i u s [ 3 ] . T h i s e n a b l e s u s t o o b t a i n i n f o r m a t i o n r e g a r d i n g t h e r e l a t i v e w a v e f u n c t i o no f p n p a i r . T h e a c c u r a c y o f t h e m o d e l w a s a l s o i n v e s t i g a t e d f o r a w i d e r a n g e o f m o m e n -t u m t r a n s f e r v a l u e s f o r t r i n u c l e o n s y s t e m s [ 4 ] . T h e s e r e s u l t s r e p r o d u c e t h e e x p e r i m e n t a ld a t a q u a l i t a t i v e l y w e l l , i n d i c a t i n g t h a t p h o t o n a b s o r p t i o n b y a p n p a i r i s i m p o r t a n t i np h o t o n u c l e a r r e a c t i o n s .

S i n c e 1 9 8 7 , n e w e x p e r i m e n t a l d a t a f o r p h o t o d i s i n t e g r a t i o n r e a c t i o n s o f l i g h t n u c l e i h a v eb e e n o b t a i n e d b y t h e T A G X g r o u p [ 5 ] . T h e y h a v e o b t a i n e d k i n e m a t i c a l l y c o m p l e t e d a t ao f 3 H e ( 3 , , p n ) p a n d 4 H e ( ~ , p n ) d f o r t h e f i r s t t i m e [ 6 , 7 ] . T h e y h a v e s t r i v e d t o s e p a r a t e w h o l ee v e n t s i n t o t w o - a n d m u l t i - n u c l e o n a b s o r p t i o n p r o c e s s e s u s i n g t h e m o m e n t u m o r d e r i n gm e t h o d [ 8 ] . W e a r e v e r y i n t e r e s t e d i n t h e d a t a , s i n c e t h e c o n t r i b u t i o n s f r o m o n l y p h o t o na b s o r p t i o n b y p n p a i r s a r e s e l e c t i v e l y o b s e r v e d . I t s h o u l d b e p o s s i b l e t o p r e c i s e l y c a l c u l a t et h e s e c o n t r i b u t i o n s i n t h e q u a s i - d e u t e r o n p i c t u r e . A n o t h e r i n t e r e s t i n g p o i n t i s t h a t t h ed a t a a r e c o m p l e t e l y e x c l u s i v e w h i c h d o n o t i n c l u d e a n y e x t r a p a r t i c l e s l i k e p i o n s i n t h e
