GHCC Internship Program

GHCC welcomes local and international volunteers who want to serve their internship by gaining

experience working in an NGO. In the first quarter of 2019, GHCC welcomes an intern from Morocco and

an intern from Japan.

SOUMAYA SERIFI KANFAOUI, MOROCCO “I spent the best days in Malaysia at GHCC, where I met with very interesting people and learned that voluntary work is not just helping people, but also arranging activities for children, and protecting the environment. You have to do something good and be active for the society or for the environment, be passionate, and follow your dreams even if that dream is hard to catch. I saw how people smiles even when they are in a bad situation and also experienced how GHCA tries to make a difference in people's life.”

MEI KAGAMI, JAPAN “I had a memorable 6 weeks volunteering in GHCC. I really enjoyed helping with assessments of the poor families, visiting orphanages, and old folks’ home. I enjoyed finding out about a granny who knows a lot about Japanese history, listening to the beneficiary's families, and talking with staff to get to know about GHCA. The GHCA community gave me a lot of chance to get involved. It was a pleasure to be here with many positive minded people. At the end of my stay here, I organised an event and realised how hard it is to take on a leadership role. This whole opportunity gave me many chances to explore situations in Malaysia and realise my weakness that needs to be improved. Lastly, I dedicate my appreciation to all the people in GHCA for hosting me with compassion. Thank you very much.”

Shopping Buddy Program

In the first quarter of 2019, 30 families from PPR Pantai Ria participated in the Shopping Buddy Program

to shop for groceries, assisted by 51 volunteers acting as their shopping buddies. Ten low income families

were selected every month through house visit assessment by GVCA’s social workers to assess the family

background and financial situation of the family. Each family received RM300 grocery support, with

RM100 coming from GVCA and RM200 from GHCA.

VOLUNTEERS’ TESTIMONIAL

“During the grocery shopping session, one of the family had taken several canned sardines, which I find it

curious. After asking them, only did I found out that whenever they are short on cash, they would just have

canned sardines and rice as meals. This gave me the awareness of how luxurious we are! All human beings

are born equal; they have the same rights and I want to lessen the inequality among our society!”

Ryan Tan Sing Sze

“I learned that people who don't have the best of everything in their life actually tries to make the best with

everything that they have in life. The fact that they can't afford being pessimistic about life puts them in a

position to only think positively. The act of kindness for this community is rare, so I will be forever grateful

to be part of this incredibly well-planned and meaningful event.”
